They are a bit like Foot Spa's, use them once and they go in the back of a cupboard never to be seen again, till your looking for things to either ebay or sell at a car boot sale.
You see hundreds of both at car boot sales now for a couple of quid, 1.50 after haggling lol.
And you'll probably find that the first time they use it, there will be dribbles of chocolate all over the place.

    :rotfl:too true :rotfl:

My brother-in-law thought he would cash in on the craze a few years ago bought a large amount (cost him loads) to sell and make a profit. Guess who was out of pocket and stuck with loads of chocolate fountains.

I have not heard many say much good about them and they seem more mess than fun and a novelty as you say destined to live its life in the back of a cupboard and when it is set free at a car boot, it goes to the back of a new cupboard :D.

Should we start a FREE THE CHOCOLATE FOUNTAIN FROM A LIFE OF NEGLECT AND DARKNESS campaign ;)

By the way my foot spa is on top of a cupboard in the spare room, great place to store summer caps for the garden.:dance:
Everything has its beauty but not everyone sees it.
  • I've used my chocolate fountain a few times for the kids Birthdays, I just melt Asda smart price chocolate and as mentioned above you have to add oil, I added some vegetable oil, to be honest it tasted a lot better than I thought it would have and the kids loved it so it worked out to be quite cheap.:)
Although they are a bit of a faff to clean!

12oz of regular chocolate to 8oz of a heavy cream.
    Pinch of salt.

    Here's one recipe: http://www.simplyrecipes.com/recipes/chocolate_fondue/

    Then there are the dippables.

Strawberries, other fruit, even tinned pineapple, slices of sturdy madeira style cake or cookies. So you could do an MSE-style baking session to make lots of tiny cakelets for it.

    You forgot marshmallows :D

The Lidl chocolate that costs ~ 16p a bar is fine for fountains. You do need to add oil though which rather puts me off. Cheap warm greasy chocolate , nom!

I bought a chocolate fountain a few years back thinking it would be really impressive, well it hasn't been used since, it is up in the loft! The chocolate for it is expensive and there was soooooo much chocolate left after that is was just a waste and as said before, a pain to clean. Wish I had got a fondue instead would of got more use out of it!

  • I always just use Sainsbury's cheap chocolate (about 33p barb 100g) and use 8-10 bars on a 2 tier choc fountain and it works just fine. HTH
  • Hi there

Just about to use a chocolate fountain for my daughters birthday on Saturday but I have no instructions. Do you have to completely melt the chocolate first before is goes on to the fountain base?

Also, is vegetable oil the best to use to allow the chocolate to flow more freely?

    Many thanks
