Signal woes

Hello, a common question but can someone give me advice specific to my situation:

  • I am on a 2 year iPhone 4 contract with orange on pay monthly
  • I am a fair way into my contract, at 3 months
  • In the last month or so my signal has become progressively worse
  • Merging with Tmobile signal didnt make things better or worse
  • I can only get 3G signal 5% of the time as a guide
  • Orange predicted good signal for my region upon buying the phone
  • At no point did the store / orange present me with poor signal opt out policy which I am led to believe they do 50% of the time according to a study
  • The breaking point was when i participated in a phone interview for a job and poor signal frustrated the interviewer to the point that i feel it is the reason I didnt get the job
Considering all of the above, what can i do? my 3G signal is non existant most of the time - say I go to the pub and want to check my bank balance, no can do. Say i need a bus timetable in the town centre...nope. The 3G part of the phone has no signal even in urban areas, and 2G rarely goes over 2 bars.

What are my rights, what are oranges rights and how can i avoid paying hundreds on the phone since i can use it!

Your rights are very limited. No network guarantees coverage, and whenre they do any signal counts, you gettting a 2G signal so thats contractually covered. Policys for returning for poor signals usually only cover the first week or two after purchase.

As part of the TM and O merger where there is excess coverage (by there defintions) masts are being turned off, you may have a case to cancell the contract but you'll need to contact Orange.

Is it just your phone or do friends have the same issue? Could it be a phone fault?
