Barcleycard cancelled my card 2 days After I got it?

So i applied for a Barcleycard so i could transfer my balance from my Capital One card, and got approved.

The card through the post the other day, so i activated it and stuck in my wallet. I couldn't transfer my balance online, but I figured I could call and do it tomorrow.

I've come to use it on Amazon today and it wouldn't work, so I rang the customer service line.

According to the person on the line (in India by the sound of it), they've changed the requirements and I failed to qualify for the account.

I cant believe this. I've got above average credit with only a CCJ hanging over my head that expires in 3 months. Now i'm stuck paying interest and fees to Capital One until i can get a new card.

I've got above average credit with only a CCJ

What do you mean by this? You have more than the average amount of credit or you think that you have an above average credit rating, because the average person does not have a CCJ.....
  • I have a CCJ that I paid over 5 years ago that i'm waiting to disappear, and my credit is 900+.

I thought that was above average.

    Complain in writing.

You won't get the card back but a phrase like "I think compensation to the value of £50 would be appropriate for such shoddy service" may work.
  • Which barclaycard was it? I thought barclays was okay with applicants with CCJs over 5 years old.

Only £50? You're cheap. I would put at least one nought on the end of that. Maybe two. :rotfl:

A credit rating from a company that doesn't lend money? It's not worth very much.

Lenders, such as Barclaycard, see the raw information on your credit report and do their own scoring.

There's been many posts here recently about Barclaycard closing accounts shortly after they were opened. There appears to be a glitch in their online application process which accepts new customers who should have been rejected. There's not really very much you can do about it: Barclaycard can close your account whenever they like.

It's worth absolutely nothing, and given one Experian representative's comments, it's hard to see how it can be anything other than inaccurate.
    Conjugating the verb 'to be":
-o I am humble -o You are attention seeking -o She is Nadine Dorries
  • Thanks for clearing it up everyone. It's not the end of the world, it just means that i have to wait a few more months until i can get a new card.

Basically i have a CCJ that was satisfied about 3 months after i got it, and i've been waiting to get rid of it ever since. It finally disappears this july and we can do things like starting to look for a better mortgage and getting lower %APR credit cards.

Interesting about the Experian thing - i naively thought that companies just looked at the number.
