    thanks for quick responses

    yes im in property now.

no sorry i was typing it so quick and talking at the same time ilandlord is a he,

i have no tenancy at all so dont think the tenancy deposit scheme would come into it? nothing is written in paper that i rent the place except a standing order for a set amount on the same day each month??

thing was i had to move out from a previous property due to abusive from ex. im 99.9% sure i paid it all in cash as my mother had to help me pay it ( she too says she remembers giving me £200) so i took out £200 plus £50 the next day to cover the rent amount but no other money .

LL says same 'you would have proof it had come out in your bank' however my parents were fortunate enough to help me out so i dont really have proof. but neither does he :-s

    thanks again

You do have proof. You have a receipt signed by him, you have the upper hand.

Also, no matter whether he's lost the 'cheque' or not, he's signed to say he's received it so its not your problem.

It doesnt have to go that way! Just let him know that you are aware of your rights! Write it in a letter, and make a copy, and see what he has to say. If he is still gives the same response then it'd be in your best interest to pursue it.

Its your money at the end of the day. Im sure you wouldnt mind about causing a rift if someone stole that money out of your purse on a train? Thats what he's doing.
