Hangovers

OP, I am the same as you. I gave up drinking for a while and now get 2 day hangovers but take the edge off the hangover by taking 2 berrocca tablets before bed. Usually 2 berrocca would give me dire rear but after a night on the drink the vitamins work wonders. If you always do what you have always done, you will always get what you always got!0

I would try swapping the lemonade for soda and see if you like it, all mixers (apart from tonic) seem to give me a mega hangover. In fact I hardly drink any fizzy soft drinks these days apart from soda or mineral water now as even without the alcohol more than two glasses I feel dog ruff the next day.
YDSMI wish I would take my own advice!0 -
I'm in my early twenties and stopped drinking about 4 months ago, because of the hangovers and I've never felt better. I now look back at my times where I was drinking to get tipsy or drunk and think !!!!!! was I doing it for? It costs a fortune, is crippling my liver and makes me feel like c*ap.
I don't get it now when my friends are all about going out and have to drink enough so they can feel the affects of it, why not just have a few drinks, it's something I'll never understand, same with my parents who drink in the house, no idea. The frontier is never somewhere else. And no stockades can keep the midnight out.0 -
eat - will always make sure i have a decent meal in me before drinking, if im going out for a meal i will always have something small later in the afternoon just to keep me going like a bit of toast or some soup as the drink always flows before you even sit down to eat
dont mix my drinks - i know i can handle vodka all night (well to apoint lol) but throw in shots and cocktails and im floored, sometimes i've had a couple of glasses of wine then vodka andbeen fine, sometimes i've had a hangover fromhell the next day
will try and have some water during the course of the night, if im eating its easier to have but sometimes i'll get abottle and if asked i just say dunno what i want to drink next
i smoke so i obv have to go outside so ithink the fresh air helps as before when we could smoke in pubs going outside into fresh air totally made me feel drunker and a harder hangover
water or diluted juice when i get in and beside the bed helps as i get thirsty during the night after drinking
worst case scenario with a bad hangover, few dvds curled up on the sofa the next day
tbh the worst hangover i have had this year was a few weeks ago when my pal came round for a few drinks was legless lol and i didnt even think i had that much to drink but home measures and pub measures are 2 different things0 -
Ive found my hangovers really bad since drinking on regular occasions again (I didnt drink when pregnant or whilst they were young) and can drag on all day !
its supposed to get you drunk quicker drinking fizzy mixers as being carbonated helps the alcohol hit your blood stream faster, i find orange juice with vodka doesnt leave me so rough in the head but makes my stomach more queasy.Bow Ties ARE cool "Just because you are offended, doesnt mean you are right" Ricky Gervais

No healthy sensible tips from me but these work well as I have found from experience, I used to be a rubbish drinker but now can hold my own, shame I dont go out much anymore:rotfl:
After your first two or three drinks eat something, preferably something carby but a pack of crisps will do, this will slow down the whole process and you can carry on drinking and feel less bad in the morning.
Find a drink that really suits you and stick to it (trial and error;)) the less additives the better so a clear drink (spirits?) is best, I drink Vodka and diet coke, thats it, I can drink at least ten of these and still be fine the next day (well a bit rough but still capable):D
Not sure why but drinking water between drinks and before I go to bed makes me feel considerably worse as does milk or food or any kind of supplement first thing, sleep is the only thing to make me feel better.
If you over do it and get the dizzy's when you lay down put one foot on the floor and you should feel less sick.
Yes, it does get much harder to recover as you get older.Thank you for this site MartinThe time for change has comeGood luck for the future0 -
Have you tried drinking other things? It could just be that this particular drink doesn't agree with you any more?0

Prevention:
Eat before you go out - if I don't want a full meal I'll have toast with peanut butter or cereal with milk
Alternate alcoholic drinks with water or soft drinks - lie if necessary (gin and tonic and lemonade look exactly the same in the glass, as does Coke with or without booze in it)
Don't mix your drinks
Drink at least a pint of water and eat something when you get in before you go to bed (I like yoghurt and plain crackers)
My cure for the morning after is another pint of water, a huge mug of tea, huevos rancheros (fried eggs on warm tortillas with homemade salsa) and sitting on the sofa watching a comedy box set.
What I think this thread reveals though is that there are as many methods to preventing and curing hangovers as there are people!"A mind needs books as a sword needs a whetstone, if it is to keep its edge." - Tyrion LannisterMarried my best friend 1st November 2014Loose = the opposite of tight (eg "These trousers feel a little loose")Lose = the opposite of find/gain (eg "I'm going to lose weight this year")0 -
Another vote for Berocca here, though I've only ever taken it the morning after. Plus large cup of coffee and a long walk with the dog. Right as rain after that.0

Fruit juice should be good for you as you're getting a few vitamins - cranberry juice is very good for you ( I'm assuming you're a woman:p) though I've never managed to acquire a taste for it.
If you want to get tipsy have a couple in the house before you go out, that'll kickstart the tipsiness and you can then avoid the "double doubles" at last orders time:rotfl: ( been a long long time since I did anything that stupid on the drink front!)
I'd stay away from too much orange juice as it's not good for the enamel on your teeth ( so my dentist tells me)
I like southern comfort and lemonade with a slice of lime, but no ice. It can't be diet lemonade though, that's just wronggg!Member of the first Mortgage Free in 3 challenge, no.19
