awwww - cant add much more to the suggestions that people have already made - like looking on freecycle for an oven. Just wanted to sympathise hun - I have had times like that when EVERY appliance in the house seemed to break down! its just a thought but are your electrics ok? might be worth getting them checked as so many things have gone wrong.

:grouphug: It is horrid when everything seems to happen at once. We have had a similar year as yourself and it has set back many plans that we had. On the upside though as another poster said you should hopefully not have to replace these items for a very long time.

Why not plan a couple of days away in a travel lodge or B&B or even go camping, that means that you can have a holiday for little money.

Can you get hold of a Remoska in the meantime? They're around a £100 in the Lakeland catalogue (not cheap), but they're great for things like cottage pie, pasta bakes, sponge cakes, soda bread & those part baked baguettes from the supermarket. They only use about 500w, compared with 2 - 3,000w for a proper oven, so if you use it regularly you'll save the money back in lecky.

They sometimes turn up at car boot sales and ebay, so you might be lucky if you keep an eye out.
I was blessed by getting a hand-me-down one from my mum who had got fed up with it :happylove

  • We didn't have any holidays for well over 18 years (that's how old DD was when we went on her first one) and to be honest they are NOT essential in a happy life. So don't let yourself feel the pressure or need to have one. Can you visit friends or relatives? Free/nearly free holidays. Maybe not to the beach or over seas, but they are fun. That and loads of hotels aren't that brilliant.

I hate it when you have a run of everything breaking (washing machine/central heating/car/cooker/fridge freezer - was one real bad Christmas ans New Year for us). It's tough, horrible and bloody unfair but you just have to take a deep breath, have a drink (tea/coke/whisky -which ever you have/want) pull up your OS knickers and darned socks and carry on.

Please don't think I'm not understanding - been there too many times - but that is the best advice I was ever given from some of my grans generation. Pen, paper and a few minutes spent jotting down thoughts and ideas really helps see different perspetives.

That and silent screaming (when you get all the tension but no sound) on your own or in the loos at work can really help.

:grouphug: I'm having an awful year too, so I sympathise hun. Is there any chance that it might just be the fuse that's blown? Might be worth checking the fuse box in case it's tripped a switch......sorry if you've already checked, but it's worth suggesting in case you haven't :)

It's always the way, when one thing goes wrong it seems like everything does at once. It will get better and your luck will change.

You said it's not a real problem compared to some on here, well I disagree, as much as one sympathises with other people, what is happening to you is important to you and is a big issue in your life so don't put your problem and feelings down because you're not as badly off as someone else. It's all relevant.

All I really wanted to say is chin up, it is hard when it's you getting the bad luck but it really will change and just think how much you will appreciate it when it's your turn for the good stuff :T

Sorry if I sound preachy, don't mean to be, just I've been there when it's all on top of you and know it's hard to see a positive way out. Good luck

There is no issue so small that it can't be blown out of proportion
  • I have had a run of your luck since December (Freezer week before Christmas,, tv and washing machine  at the end of February ) so I know where you are coming from hun.
we just brought the small tv down from upstairs - we don't watch much tv so we were not too fussed.
Managed to get good deals on the freezer and the washing machine but now all the knobs on the cooker are falling off it is only 2 years old and cost nearly £500 and at £7.50 a knob  I will carry on using pliers until I can afford a new one. I hate the cooker anyway and will never buy another belling
Got my eye on a zanussi built in oven and hob at wickes that is on special offer so I will save up for that.

As for holidays, just do day trips to the seaside or picnics in the countryside. We can't afford holidays so we do this and if we like where we are we just have a night at a premier inn or travel lodge.

(((((((((Hugs)))))))) it will sort itself honestly x

Had a year or so like that. the big end went on the big family car so we ended up getting it traded in to avoid all the hassle (worked out about the same loss overall as fixing it first and we moved up to a bigger car as baby 4 was born last may). Then the washer and the fridge started playing up. Limped them through christmas when the dryer blew up.
oh was made redundant just before christmas so we used a bit of his redundancy (and some tesco vouchers) to get a new dryer and did without any pressies for each other at chrimbo, (BTW we found out the kids coped with alot less food and treat stuff as well as alot less presents-just main and a couple of small ones each rather than loads of bits and stocking fillers they only use for a few days).

The fridge gave up the ghost in Feb but we were lucky my cousin bought a new american side by side fridge freezer and wanted rid of her old one which is a bosch and only 2 years old so we hotfooted over to yorkshire to get it-bargain don't you love free stuff.

Then the washer finally gave up (just as OH got back into work thank goodness) last month so we had to get a replacement, found a good price online and moved up to a bigger drum (6 of us so the bigger 9kg machine is great for fewer (if larger) loads, plus it takes a double quilt.

Finally the small car had a problem with suspension and despite trying all over neither us nor our mobile machanic can source the part either new or second hand. So out to get another car :(.

Getting a bit cleared out now, i supspect we won't have a holiday this year either, but will have some days out in the summer holidays with the kids.

Life can be a pain sometimes, feels like you run around and around and stand still lol.

    i feel your pain

Hope you are starting to feel a bit more positive, I too can sympathise with your situation and I know how awful it can make you feel. I can only echo what previous posters have said, check out freecycle, ebay etc and have a nice BIG bar of chocolate!!
I have not had a conventional holiday in years, now I just make use of offers on this site, 2 for 1s etc. and restaurant offers. We have gone camping for weekends too which have been great fun and have created more memories than if we had of spent £100s on a package deal. It takes a bit more planning but that can be fun. I've convinced my OH to get involved with the planning and he sees it as a mission to get things a cheaply as possible now:rotfl:
Hoe things start to look up soon hon xx
