cancelling/moving from O2 after end of contract

Does anyone know if O2 make any charge for cancelling a contract after it has ended, i.e. mine was 12 months and i'm on month 14 now?

I've got a PAC code but they won't tell me (i've rang) whether i have to give 30 days notice or if there will be any cancellation fees. The (not so nice) lady said to use the PAC code and you'll get a final bill. But it's what may be on this bill that worries me. When i pushed on any notice or leaving fees, she cut me off.

I am pretty sure that you have to give 1 month notice, i.e. pay for 1 month after you give the notice. If you port the number earlier you pay regardless.

There'll be no termination fees, once you use your PAC you'll get a final bill 14 days later, the final bill will have any unbilled charged on it and most likely a credit for line rental that you've paid, but not used.

This is what i'm trying to find out, but they won't tell me. Like my previous provider, they won't accept a 30 day notice AND give a PAC code, only the one.

The problem is that if they do that then it's going to create all sorts of problems and extra work if something goes wrong with the port or the PAC isn't used.

You ask for your PAC, you use it and you're disconnected, it's not that hard. The alternative is you ask to be disconnected on a certain date, then you're disconnected on a certain date and the number is lost.

If they disconnect when the PAC code is used but then charge for the 30 day notice that is the problem. Or charge a cancellation fee (i've read on here about that).

I could give 30 days notice and ask for the account to be changed to PAYG, then get a PAC code to transfer the number.

I have broadband with them also (which is not cheap at £13 even with the £5 discount, so would cancel that as well). But they don't seem too keen on giving me a deal for either. I've had the contract for over 2 years.

You're over complicating the issue. Its as straightforward as wintermute said. On O2, Using your PAC closes your account on the day the number transfer happens. You'll receive a final bill which will show any charges since your last bill less a credit for any days you've already paid for but not used. (As you pay a month In advance)

Sorry about that, but if O2 won't give as clear an answer as you do, then I need to make sure.

I've had this problem with T-Mobile last year when I left them and ended up with a default for money I shouldn't owe! They didn't cancel even on two 30 day notices and a PAC code request before that. The charged me 'admin' fees every month. They wouldn't let me transfer my number which I had used for last 6 years because they said I owed them a balance. In the end it's me who lost out.
