  • Hey Messies,

Emm, just actually read op is due, obviously thinking of you xxxx

am shattered, never got anything finished, the light went in Mum's room and I couldn't tidy in the dark. It of course takes a"special"bulb and it went downhill from there.

My room is the worst it has EVER been. No chance to fix it with Mum back. I think if am completely honest we are both struggling with depression. All those unmade decisions have crashed in around me.

Have marking to do. next free evening is Thursday and I am going away Friday. Looking forward to that. A LOT.

    right well, best mark.
    Have a good week folks.

Oh my goodness, that's what I get for posting and not reading back

Emm, big hugs, I'm thinking of you too, good luck with the op.

Also to anyone else who might need or want one, hugs.

Sorry I'm not keeping up very well.

  • Hello Messies - haven't been here for some time, just wanted to see how everyone was getting on.... Hope everyone is still taking those baby steps towards a less messy life ;)
  • Hello all,

JPS- I am terrible at keeping up too but I am sure the messies in general don't mind. Well, i hope they don't. I am sorry if I miss big news.

so a mini update, I rearranged the mess to make it more bearable and at least cleaned the piggies out.

    Big hugs to all

    xxxx

  • Hi Messies.
Soupdragon, Hi! Glad to hear from you. `Baby Steps` is still the way of life here as it describes my menfolks` learning curve beautifully! (and my learning to delegate - keep having to remind myself they don`t do multi-tasking or retain head-lists)
Buffy & JPS - thanks for kind words, and ((HUGS)) to you both. I always love reading both your posts when you are up-to-something Messy-wise, and when you are clinging on by your fingertips till the next lot of school hols when you can get stuck in without marking/school prep to juggle as well. There`s a blend of humour and despair that must be part of how teachers get by!
Under `normal` circs I wouldn`t be posting or keeping up on here myself - I`d be lurching from one stretch of shifts to the next days off, and regularly find a page or 2 I hadn`t read! And coming on here to wail about what the Messy Pixies had done while I was at work. And planning Great De-messifying but never getting stuff finished before the next batch of shifts...Hang in there, Easter`s coming!
Buffy - enjoy your time away, and well done on the piggies x.

    Messy Status Report -
Pub visit on Sunday was a nice change, had a nice natter with Mine Hostess (she`s retired but ex-hospital staff) and was happy to let her know we hadn`t deliberately deserted them or found another watering-hole!
The beer we brought back made a GORGEOUS beef casserole for yesterday, herby dumplings quick & easy, no spills...
Then I decided to take the ashes out to bin before we lit the fire, very light, not a strenuous task... but it was windy.
I got caught by a GUST outside back door. SO glad I hadn`t asked OH or DS to clean kitchen floor before this. DS looked at me funny and said `Mum, have you started wearing face-powder?`...

:D You nailed it Emm! School is so all-or nothing, just like killer shifts. I spend the first few days off just waiting for the room to stop spinning!

Easter must be coming though, because I'm now in fixed-grin mode which is a prelude to clinging by fingernails mode! Work is actually really good at the moment, I am enjoying it, but gosh I'm tired.

Love to all, keep on keeping on!

    Evening Messies.

As I think I said a couple of days ago, I admire anyone who teaches, jps and Buffy. OFSTED's doing the rounds at secondary schools over here, and very few of them are expected to do well. At the one that had inspectors today, someone set off the fire alarm, bless 'em. I suppose it checks if the pupls and staff know what to do in an emergency!

Buffy, I hope you're still holding on, and are coping ok with the 'tidying' you've managed to do.

Jps, how are you now, healthwise? I hope your GP was able to help.

Snookey, it's good to see you've been back in. So sorry to hear about your Nan - its tough losing someone so close, even when they are at an advanced age, so <hugs>. I hope your DD and friend are OK by now.

Emms, how much face powder does your DS think people use? :rotfl: No news yet as to op date?

I'm managing to keep things relatively de-messed, but my card-making supplies had taken over the second bedroom. Bit embarrassing when we had to call out the heating engineer yesterday, and he had to get to step carefully over boxes to check the radiator . DD2 is coming for the weekend :T - brief stay only, sadly - and, although she prefers to sleep on the sofa if she comes without bf, I thought it might be a good idea to tidy up a bit, just in case she wants to use the computer. I finally, after ...oo, must be more than a month, sorted and tidied the drawer under our bed where I keep my journals and notebooks, and some other craft materials. I'm finding it slightly stressful that OH just can't seem to see that the kitchen work surfaces need cleaning after he's finished cooking. I don't want to hassle him by following him around with a cloth, but I'm getting fed-up with putting things down on sauce or somesuch.
  • HI Messies, it`s Friday again....
Breathing space for Buffy & JPS.
Bearcub having a visit from DD2
Kids off for a couple of days (inc my DGD here) to either help us Messies a bit (or help those naughty Messy Pixies who trash the place!)
    And here at chez-Emm -
A visit from the Chimney Sweep this morning! Next-doors both sides on the alert to see the brush appear out of the chimney for luck, as both lots of neighbours have had a few downers in the last couple of months, as we have here. Not REALLY superstitious... but we`re all going to buy a lottie ticket today after the Sweep`s visit as well!
Preparation is only a minor faff.
    1) nursery fireguard put in the hall (front door blocked by it)
    2)coal buckets in kitchen
3)mantelpiece cleared- Simples, wasn`t cluttered anyway, and stuff moved to LR windowsill.
4)woolly rugs lifted and put on top of fireguard in hall.
    5) ashes/ grate front taken outside.
Our Sweep doesn`t make a mess but he does worry in case it happens, very careful and considerate. He always says it`s his treat coming here as he spends a bit of time looking out of LR window at the birds & squirrels on the birdfeeders! Also makes a great fuss of Daftie-dog, calls her a Grand Old Lady.
(He puts an old duvet down in front of the fireplace to kneel on/catch any stray bit of mess - and Daftie goes and lies on it beside him! He takes this as a compliment not a hindrance, says she wants to help.
No other de-messying apart from the chimney. I had my CT scan on Wednesday, no date for op yet but told it`d be first half of April. Neighbours, family & friends have all volunteered to help re shopping & stuff afterwards when I`m not going to be able to drive, but I`m currently concentrating on lists/stash of shopping items to save the need for it later.
Caravan of Doom is bulging with sacks of dogfood, peanuts, birdseed, and laundry stuff. Next plan is toilet roll, cooking oil, sugar & noodles...early next week when supermarket less busy. Meanwhile - just an idle-ish weekend, I suppose, and hereby wishing all Messies the same! x

Hope everyone's feeling ok today, not too weighed down with health stuff and other issues big and small. DH is in the middle of a flare up of his thing, not bad enough to keep him off work thankfully but not nice anyway. How nice to hear that neighbours and friends have offered to help out after your op Emm.

No idle weekend for us here. We have no cash so we're putting ourselves to work at home. DH has a couple of filling/paint touch up jobs to do, we need to slap on a few coats of wood preservative for the compost bin as parents are coming next weekend to build it. I also want to sand the woodwork on the landing and maybe get a first coat on it. It looks really grim at the minute but I've been putting it off, we have a sliding door at the top of the stairs so there's a lot of wood to do.

To motivate all this work I'm going to nip to the shop later for some sugar to make some jam buns. Meals for the weekend are in the freezer so I don't need to do any cooking which is always good when you're busy isn't it? I also want to get the bunny pen deep cleaned too, that might wait until Sunday if I sweep them out today.

Have a good day and a joyful weekend everyone.

    Afternoon Messies.

I read at first, Emms, that your op was going to be the first of April, not first half, and was wondering if they were joking with you! How lovely that your 'Sweep' is so carefuyl and considerate. Very few of them around now, I'd have thought.

Alec E, I sympathise with you re lack of cash. DD2 and bf are much the same - bf turned down a job as he was going to be working with his dad, then dad decided he didn't want the job after all. Bf is now working on a good decorating job but, of course, until he finishes, he won't get paid!

Over the last two days, we've had good weather, so I made sure that urgent jobs were done out there. I finished forking over the borders in the front garden, pruned our huge dogwood in the back, which was in danger of taking over, and cut down/pulled up various dead stems. Monday's snow and ferociously strong and cold winds tore some early daffs to shreds, but there are still a lot of flowers - hellebores, primroses and daffs/little narcissi out or opening. Despite rain earler (and more forecast), it does actually look quite springlike.

Had to call the Police a while ago. Three young reps from a south coast solar panel company were calling on houses in our road, despite the fact that one of the PCs called them before Christmas and warned them off harrassing us. At that time, we'd had them call 6 times in 4 weeks!
