Is there anyway to set your account so that you cannot use more than the minutes, texts, data included in your contract?

They have 25% off line tariff for council workers, I have always been payg but am considering an iphone on this deal. But I would like to make sure I don't inadvertently spend more than my allowance each month.

In a word no. However you can check how many mins etc you have left at any time by calling 150, option 1, 1. Or use the Your Orange app for the iPhone.
I spent 25 years in the mobile industry, from 1994 to 2019. Worked for indies as well as the big networks, in their stores also in contact centres. I also hold a degree in telecoms engineering so I like to think I know what I’m talking about 😂

  • Hi FloFlo,

We are unable to cap your inclusive minutes or texts once they have been exceeded. One of the main reasons for this is it would prevent you from contacting friends/family if urgent. You are able to monitor your usage by calling 150 from your phone.

If you are using a smartphone there are various applications available that will provide you information on how much data you have used. These can be found by searching in the marketplace from your phone.

    Hope this helps.

I believe that if you limit a tariff such as data, then you should allow your customers to view their usage as charges can be high if a user goes over. You simply cant expect a user to rely on phone technology to check data themselves as it could be inaccurate, also wouldn't stand up against any complaint.

I give credit to Three that they have a system which allows this.

They do. You can check this by logging into your account online of by using "My Orange" app.
TBH, the app is crap as all Orange software.

    Incorrect.

By logging into my account I can view my minute usage, however data is nowhere to be seen. I have been advised by orange on twitter that this isn't a feature yet.

Also there is no 'My Orange' app for the blackberry.

The Orange billing system for pay monthly doesn't run in real time and can lag by as much as 24/48 hours. So there's no way you'll get an actuate idea of your usage.

The 3 system works because it's a much newer and had the feature built in from concept. With the sheer number's being 'let go' at Orange at the moment, I can't see the billing system getting an overhaul any time soon. . .

It's long time ago since I stopped taking seriously everything said by the CS.

I will post later how to see the current data usage.

Offering customers the option to receive an automated text message when they've used their allowance would surely get around this problem?

Yet another proof to support this position.
