BMIbaby luggage allowance pricing help - Paris return from E Midlands

Hi,
Trying to get the gall to book a return flight to Paris from East Midlands on BMIbaby, however confused over all the extra charges. Have read the terms over and over and just can't help but think they are going to catch me out. I'm going with my boyf for 3 days and don't need more luggage than one 22kg and our hand luggage I think/guess.
Therefore can I purchase one 22kg allowance for £29.98 (+£16 check in fee) and have hand luggage only and online checkin for the other person? It seems silly to have to buy two lots of 22kg baggage when we won't go over yet I just don't trust this budget flying marlarky having seen watchdog on their tricks.
Problem is, on my earnings I can't afford eurostar at short notice (all £69 cheap fares gone for dates we need and its our anniversary and my 30th bday so needs to be on the dates i've selected.
Also is £203ish total if opt for the above, good for this deal?
Thanks for any advice

I've just made a courteous visit to the bmibaby website for you. You only pay for baggage for one passenger- you're not forced to select two bags.
Hope this helps and happy flightings.0 -
Hi,
Thanks for checking for me but I'm still paranoid that they will catch me out when I get to the airport.
Originally I found flights saying £40.99 there and £37.99 return per person and though ok £151 ish quid. Good. But after going further with the order, the add on's started, card fees, check in, baggage, insurance...
I've been talking to my work mates today about it today and though no one's booked a bmibaby flight personally, one guy said a group of 8 inc him went away and took 4 suitcases with one company, paying the equivalent of four 22kg allowances, so I'm hoping I can, as I say, pay one 22kg allowance for me and then for my other half, just take hand luggage and they check in online.
It'd be great if anyone who'd travelled with bmi baby can let me know their experience. Have one chance at this online and can't afford to make a mistake.
P.s does anyone recommend taking BMI baby's travel insurance for UK to Paris £7ish each? I have a europe medical card already.0 -
Although its recommendable to have insurance, you don't have to take their insurance.
It seems from their website that you can pay for luggage and spread it over five bags.. as long as the five bags don't weigh over 22KG. i.e, your could take a 11kg bag and your partner could take another 11kg bag. But that'd be it.0 -
I regularly fly bmibaby East Mids to Paris and return, usually with only hand luggage for each of us on a 3 or 4 night trip. I always choose the cheapest options ie check-in online if poss, take hand luggage only etc.
But yes, you can if you wish choose to pay for and use one hold bag - BMI baby won't be looking to catch you out, so as long as you read and understand what you're booking when you book, you will have no unpleasant surprises
.
Oh, and I never pay for insurance when booking flights - always sort out my travel insurance separately.
How much is it to go Eurostar? Its just that you will need to pay for transfers from CDG airport to Paris itself, whereas with Eurostar you arrive in central Paris.0 -
Thanks for your comments and especially Balletshoes, that is just the sort of first hand experience I really wanted!
I think I'll maybe do this now.
I have looked at Eurostar as I think I said but for time and date I need it it is £129 and £159 there and back, then I need a train from East Yorkshire to London and that add's 3 hours onto the time so makes it hard to get out early morning and come back later at night. Wish I'd known a holiday plan was in order a month ago!
One more thing I noticed and I don't know if anyone else has found this but my session kept timing out yesterday and on my third one for the time and date I wanted a new header was above it saying 'Hurry only 5 seats left!' but today from work it wasn't there and prices the same so do they employ a sneaky 'make you sweat' cookie thing when you're not booking your tickets quick enough? Strange0 -
yes they do the sneaky cookies thing - so do Easyjet

Don't know where you are in East Yorkshire, but you may want to consider flying from Leeds Bradford or Manchester. Manchester has a good train link over the Pennines.
Also, if you're not completely set on Paris, you may be lucky and get a cheap flight from Humberside to Amsterdam. Also a cheaper city to travel around and lots to do for a weekend.0
