Will Engine Suffer ?
Options
For some reason , blank mind session i think , i managed to get 60p worth of Diesel into my tank before realising !
Quickly topped up with unleaded !
Would this amount of diesel make my engine suffer any adverse effects ? what would be best course of action ?
Regards

Fill the tank with petrol, 60p worth of diesel won't make any difference, it's less than half a litre.
Actually, you've just reminded me, mine ran out out the weekend, it's got two stroke from the chainsaw in it at the moment.0 -
dont worry about it, putting diesel in a petol engine manageable but petrol in a diesel engine can be catastrophicBe Alert..........Britain needs lerts.0

They used to put upto 20% petrol in diesel vehicles in during the winter to stop it freezing.
Putting diesel in a petrol can be just as bad. It can fail to ignite and cause damage to the crank/conrods/pistons.
If it does burn it can soot up the combustion chambers and sensors and also clog up the CAT.
60p in a full tank though wont make much difference (less than half a litre)Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
What car is it?
I didn't know this was possible.
(you might want a sticker like my avatar :rotfl:)0 -
Since 60p worth of diesel is about what you spill on average when filling the tank (;)), I wouldn't worry.
Seriously that amount of either D in P or P in D will not have any detrimental effect on an engine at all.
You did exactly the right thing by diluting with the correct fuel as in surance. :TI like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)
Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed0 -
60p is a bit different to 40 litres.....as happened to our family Cavalier some time ago...Missus swore blind the hose was green...maybe the garage had the wrong tanks filled?
The car got home, but that was it!
Happily, no cat on it [cats do rather inhibit what one can 'do' with an engine, don't they?]....so.....the biggest problem I had was finding enough suitable containers to drain the [full] tank into.....somehow, tupperware didn't quite hack it!
Now..the real problem I had then, was..I didn't really know how much petrol had been mixed with the diesel....so didn't want to risk handing it over to my diesel doris mates...[it can blow diesel turbos].....so I had several years-worth of engine cleaner to get through.
Full tank of petrol, and the Cavalier was as right as rain again.....No, I don't think all other drivers are idiots......but some are determined to change my mind.......0 -

The best course would be to over react and drain the tank, and set fire to the drained fuel at a safe distance (300yds) using a remote ignition nice explosion to watch.
The most practical course would be to forget about it and drive it till its empty then fill again, or fill it every 100 miles for the next 300 miles then drive it to empty.0 -
the only thing that may happen is the lambda sensor will pick up the slight difference in fuel emissions, and a EML light flag up but once burnt off will should correct itself.0

I think you might have got that the wrong way round. The greater danger, for most of us, lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark0
