Mother's Day - March 6th - what will you be doing?

In the good ole days, all that was expected from the kids was a bunch of daffs (usually picked from the garden, or heaven forbid, the local park).
These days, the leisure pages are full of "Mother's Day Lunch" so called deals.
Mine died years ago, but I like to get her pix out and talk about her with my own kids (nothing maudlin, she was quite a character and it's a fun half hour).
Commercially, it seems, like most "events" to be getting really out of hand (meaning expensive!).
I received the best gift ever last year, when my then 9yo and 8yo wrote me a letter telling me why they loved me (it was soooooo cute!). Naturally, it is put away and cherished ... well, actually it's put away for "evidence"; I've already survived 3 teenagers, I know exactly what to expect then, so I need to keep that letter to remind me that they worshipped me - ONCE!
I'm really looking foward to reading your replies.

What do you plan to do for your Mother this year?

All "Mum's", what would *you* like to receive for Mother's Day?
(do be honest, there are enough men here who could do with some inspiration)

What was the most cherished gift you were given for a past Mother's Day?
I'm really looking foward to reading your replies.

For mother's day last year i bought my mother a locket which was really expensive. She was grateful but did not seem as overjoyed as I expected her to be.
To be honest she has seemed happier in the past with a cheap plant pot. I was looking at sending her some flowers but think I should stick with a plant pot. If anyone does have any other ideas let me know.
I have a daughter who is nearly 16 and I would be happy if she just picked me some daffs. All my views are just that and do not constitute legal advice in any way, shape or form.£2.00 savers club - £20.00 saved and banked (got a £2.00 pig and not counted the rest)Joined Store Cupboard Challenge]0 -
Mother's day is one of the days in the year when we all (20 people including spouses and assorted children) make the effort to get together and treat mum to a family meal out. This year there will be one or two missing, gap year nephew for one isn't home till June. We get a her boquet of flowers and chocolates too but the best bit for my mum is to see all her family together, she loves it.
I usually get flowers from my two and even breakfast in bed if I'm lucky....:)0 -
this year I shall mainly be trying to stop myself from strangling her.Blah0

My sister is getting her flowers, so I'm getting her a pamper kit, ie, bath stuff, chocs & a book...and yes the first 2 came from the boots Xmas sale. Got to keep the moneysaving thing going...besides if I don't tell her she won't know and then we're all happy...unless she finds out and then I'll get a clip round the ear.Baby Year 1: Oh dear...on the move

Their loss I am sure - they should be proud of you being married for 28 years. My parents have paid off their mortgage this year and are finally living debt free. As my mother has most things she wants I decided to get her a fruit tree for a family from https://www.greatgifts.org
I love her dearly and think that as a mother a lifetimes supply of fruit for a family in need is worth a lot more than a bunch of flowers which will fade after time.0 -
Best present was a 200g bar of Dairy Milk chocolate. Why?
My two are 8 and 6. Last year, they took some money out of their moneyboxes when I sent them on an errand to the corner shop and they bought it all by themselves. They were so proud when they told me after what they had doneHere I go again on my own....0 -
There is a scheme where you can purchase a gift certificate for your mum costing £15 telling her thanks for being wonderful. The £15 is then spent on saving the life of a pregnant woman in the developing world (on average around 1 in 14 pregnancies end in death of the expectant mother...all for the sake of transport to hospital, forceps, or an antibiotic or similar v.cheap medical assistance).
Moderator, if this is infringing board rules please let me know, move this post etc etc...I had posted on the Referrers board but the post got minimal attention and is now being looked at at all.
At the risk of upsetting the Mods the charity is called Maternity Worldwide (www.maternityworldwide.org), and all the details are on there about these certificates and how the charity trains local staff to save the lives of pregnant women, and their babies of course.
If my mother is anything to go by some older mums have enough "rubbish" (as my mother so kindly calls my presents of smellies, books etc etc). She's more than happy with just a card whereas I feel the need to actually buy a gift but get irritated when it's still unused a year later. This gift certificate might help those who find themselves in a similar predicament!
Mods, please don't slap my wrists...kissy kissy love you!! xxx0 -
Difference with my Mum is that she almost lives in the bath with a book attached to her hands. She has knee problems...but is too young for a replacement (she liked that bit). Having a bath helps to ease things when its all a bit painful. So I do know that smellies & the book will be appreciated. Besides, two big bunches of flowers would be a little silly.Baby Year 1: Oh dear...on the move
