Before I name the place can you all give me some feedback?

I was in Newtownabbey and a couple of Saturday's ago called into a cafe and ordered a bacon bap and a cup of tea. It was fine but when I paid the bill was £5.

I thought this was expensive but was told that is the going rate,

any thoughts?

In our wee tea room a bacon bap costs £2.50 and a pot of tea is 95p - but we get a lot of schoolkids/students so keep the prices low to attract them

In my works canteen I get a lorne sausage and haggis roll for a quid and a strong black coffee (from a machine which claims it grinds beans) for 65p. This is a better portion than similar priced bacon roll and coffee offers in places like mcdonalds or greggs.

My work claims this is not subsidised. I would normally expect to pay 5 at lunch for pie chips and a bottle Of coke.

    I'm in Edinburgh.

Bacon bap £1.80 tae 50p. For £5 id be looking a h***job thrown in
  • I paid £3.80 for 2 cups of tea on the Stranraer to Belfast ferry last night (Stenaline). That's for 2 paper cups full of hot water and 2 teabags. Would have been £5 if i wanted it in 2 teapots (still 2 teabags and hot water). You can probably get 500 teabags at the Cash n' Carry for that price....some profit
  • In our wee shop in lisburn bacon buttys are £1.50 and tea is free until 12 o'clock, but we are only take out.

£5 is a rip off, you should be getting a full Ulster Fry and coffee or tea for that, even if it is best quality bacon. Shouldn't be more than £2.50 tops in my opinion. Name and shame the place!

    Thay are having a laugh.
The OH reckons 2.50 for the bacon roll but it depends on what sort of place it is. Some places in Stranmillis charge 4.50 for a bacon roll.
Some places are really expensive for snacks. My pet hate is coffee. I can take the pain of paying large amounts for coffee but when I then get a tiny cup and no refill I'm fit to be tied.

Definitely agree - £5 in our place gets you a Fry with Tea/Coffee and Toast!

I am actually quite pleased here - this thread is providing me with some good market research and our prices seem just about right!

Lisburn girl's prices are very good value though, and free tea!
