Buying on Ryanair with Orange Cash Prepaid Mastercard not working

Hello everyone,

Just a quick one, I have an Orange Cash prepaid Mastercard (see here www . orange . co . uk / cash) and am trying to book my flights with it, so I loaded the money on today, and it's appearing as available, however it looks like Ryanair is denying the card because it doesnt appear to them as a Prepaid Mastercard. This is the message it's giving me:
Your card payment could not be processed due to one of the below reasons. Please review the below issues and go back to the previous (Payment) page and resubmit:
  1. You have mistyped the card number or some of the digits are missing go to the previous (Payment) page and resubmit.
  2. The card type selected (e.g. Mastercard, Visa, Visa Electron) is invalid for the card number provided go to the previous (Payment) page and reselect.
  3. You have incorrectly entered the card number into the cardholder name box or vice versa go to the previous (Payment) page and re-enter.
  4. The billing address is incorrect- go to the previous (Payment) page and re-enter, ensuring the billing address matches the address on your card statement.
Have I gone and got a lemon with this Orange Cash card, is it not a "proper" prepaid MasterCard? The details are definitely correct as I've checked them a few times now!

Cheers,
James :)

There is really nothing anyone can do here..

Slightly off-topic.. but looks like a pretty decent prepaid card actually.

Yeah, the card itself seems pretty competitive, you don't need to be an Orange customer to have one either!

I was just posting to see if anyone on here had tried to use one with Ryanair or something. It's looking like I'll need to get the FairFX one and load it up with the balance from the Orange Cash card

  • Has the money actually got onto the card yet,on the Fairfx card it is not immediate when you transfer it?

That's what the website says, I assume if it says that then it's applied and ready for purchases?

Yes. But you need to ring Orange.. there might be some issue or problem, either way they can look into it for you. If you card has been declined it should show up on their system.

I will give them a call however it doesn't seem to be the usual "declined" message, it makes no reference to insufficient funds or anything along those lines, it would appear that the Ryanair payment system isn't even attempting to contact the card issuer.

I'll speak to Orange and report back.

    Regards,
    James

  • Ryanair seems to have a suspiciously disproportionate quantity of errors when processing pre-paid Mastercards by comparison to processing of 'normal' cards, I wonder why that could be?
  • I had the same problem, and when i used the orangcash card as a mastercard everything was ok appart from the surcharge from ryanair... It seems that what orange sells as a prepaid mastercard is not a mastercard prepaid to the eyes of ryanair... i will try to investigate at orange.

Someone suggested in a previous thread that perhaps problems might be caused by people failing to select "Mastercard Prepaid" and just choosing "Master Card" instead on the drop-down list on the payment page - just a thought...

I have an orange prepaid mastercard thingy : If I choose "mastercard prepaid" on ryanair site, the paiment fails (tested many times). If i choose mastercard : the payment is ok (and i'm charged for the extra pounds :/ ). Seems that ryanair is misclassifying the card.
