BT Broadband - how do I get to an engineer?

I am having lots of problems with my broadband line dropping, and have tried every test possible and replaced every bit of kit. (see posts on tech board!)
I am convinced it is the line - BT originally told me I had a burglar alarm on it when I don't! But I've now tried the call centre 3 times by phone and 5 times by email, including asking for the complaints procedure which they have so far failed to send.
All I want is to speak to an engineer in the UK who can pop out to the exchange and have a look at it. Instead I am being told over and over to perform the same checks.
My head + brick wall = pain!!
Does anyone have top tips for getting me through to an engineer? I'd rather not have to spend months waiting while I escalate through regulators etc.
Although I may have to because I'm not in an NTL area..
All advice appreciated!

Well it could be useful that they're doing checks on the line. If they send out an engineer & they find nothing wrong with the line then you'll have to stump up the funds for the engineer call out.
020 7356 5000 and ask to speak to someone in the chairmans complaints office & then explain your situation. Someone will be able to assit much quicker than any other normal route with BT

Probably a silly question but how long are the telephone extension leads for the modem and how old/what condition are they?
I had major problems with mine until i went wireless and connected the modem to the main bt socket as it enters the house. It now works so much better.
Again, only an idea!
