amy_forster wrote: »I could go on and on and on about this subject and some of my favourite images from wedding blogs come from www.rocknrollbride.com and feature tattooed brides! Your tattoos are a part of you and you must love them so why do you feel the need to cover them? I understand the older generation may be a little dissaproving of your tattoos and feel you should cover them for you wedding but its your day, do what you want to do. Its important that you feel like you and you do what makes you and your other half happy!
Iget what people are saying about the brides on Rock n Roll Bride wearing slightly more unusual dresses but here's some links to my favourite brides from Rock n Roll Bride who have tattoos & are wearing a traditional wedding dress...

Not a totally traditional dress thanks to the petticoats but still... http://www.rocknrollbride.com/2011/01/mr-mrs-tattooboys-heavily-tattooed-!!!-kickin-rockabilly-wedding/#more-65018

Totally traditional dress, the all-american-esque girl but then you see the tattoos! And its still stunning! http://www.rocknrollbride.com/2011/02/amy-mannys-morocc-n-roll-backyard-wedding/
Everyone of these brides is totally gorgeous in her own way and appears to have remained totally true to herself. Not having tattoos doesn't mean that you don't want a completely weird & wonderful day does it? And just because you have tattoos doesn't mean that you don't want to wear a 'traditional' wedding dress and have a totally traditional day.
Think about what will make you and your H2B happiest and do it.
Wow, these are beautiful, thank you! Will show them to my mum and Mr Sol's mum0 -
Thank you for your advice and help everyone! I've saved a few more links to show the parents and I will get a shrug to put on for some of the photos in case the older relatives want to choose a photo that's more 'vanilla'. You've all made me feel loads better about it though, thank you again! x0

I think a mix of both would be best
. Then everyoen is happy
. I think its good that you dress is sleeveless though as it would look strange to only see half your arm tattoo on show. Im not a lover of tattoos but when I saw a bride with tattoos that were half covered by the dress I thought that if they were on show she should have at least shown all the design (as much as possible!) so that they are part of the 'look'.

Was it your intention to show your tattoos on your wedding day or have you felt the need to compromise as a result of what the relations etc have said?
you are who you are and the tattoos are part of you and I think its a shame that anyone has suggested you alter the way you want to be on your wedding day...
I'm not a lover of body art but I wouldn't dream of suggesting that anyone should cover up just to please me or to look "conventional " in the photos....
If it represents you and means something to you then its part of you and people should accept that....most of all it should be your decision in the same way that I assume you wont be dictating the clothes or way that your relations wear their hair at your wedding ...its called personal choice!
What would their reaction be if you were to suggest that they lost /gained weight just so they didnt appear too large/small in the photos......?frugal October...£41.82 of £40 food shopping spend for the 2 of us!

I have a number of tattoos and until last year they were all where they could be covered up if I didn't want to display them. Then I went and got one on the inside of my left wrist which is five stars and represents myself (the biggest star!), OH, and his 3 kids, all in their favourite colours.
Earlier this year I also got quite a large script on the middle of my back, up near the top. It reads "Live life to the fullest, Laugh all you can, Love with all your heart".
Now, I'd been toying with the idea that because I'm meant to be getting married somewhere cold then I would maybe get a nice furry cloak or something to wear, until my brother in law (who's married to my sister who's ALWAYS right!) commented that I'm now going to need a polo necked wedding dress.
I'm now going to stick out the cold and not bother covering it at all! If he doesnt want to see it, he doesnt have to look!
That one is the start of my back piece which I want to get to eventually join up with the ones I have at the bottom so by the time the wedding comes around it could be even bigger and better! No longer ...tobe! I can see both sides tbh. The OP should be able to relax and be herself on her big day but I can imagine how the 'olds' will feel when showing of the wedding photos to their friends and neighbours.
It's the OP's big day though, no-one else's. Op you need to do what you feel happy with. Everyone else will just need to understand their opinion is just that and isn't important enough to make you do something you're not happy about on your day.
How very ageist - why do you assume that only old folk would find tattoos unappealing? Plenty of 'youngs' feel the same, too!"Some say the cup is half empty, while others say it is half full. However, this is skirting around the issue. The real problem is that the cup is too big."0 -
I think she was referring specifically to the OP's parents, not all old people! I call my parents the olds too. It's not ageism. What matters most is how well you walk through the fire0

I think the last photo in this article is particularly appropriate: http://www.stylecollective.com.au/articles/bridal/tattoo/index.html
If you don't want to cover up, don't. The last thing you want to do is look back on your wedding photographs & wish you'd had them on show.Mortgage: [STRIKE]08/13 £28,896.49[/STRIKE] 01/18 £00 -
Well done for dragging up a 7 month old thread.....0

Ooops, didn't see the dates! Interesting thread OP, has your wedding happened yet and what did you do in the end?
I'm in the 'hate tattoos especially with a wedding dress' camp but also in the 'each to their own' camp. If they're a part of you, then it's up to you whether you display them or not. Above all, you should enjoy the day!7 Feb 2012: 10st7lbs14 Feb: 10st4.5lbs
