Dispute with ex-flatmate over gas and electricity bill- advice needed

Using the information on the sheets I've managed to fill in the gaps which fairly clearly (at least to me) proves that she is wrong about the direct debits being on top of the amounts. This is the Bill & Payment History and the 4 actual amounts cover my period in the flat, with the payments made corresponding to what I've used and paid for.
If I can get confirmation that my thinking is correct, then I think I can clearly show that I actually only owe £45 and not the £160 she is claiming0 -
Really, the information on the sheet you have shown is a near total waste of time and effort for you to look at and for anyone to struggle with.Using the information on the sheets I've managed to fill in the gaps which fairly clearly (at least to me) proves that she is wrong about the direct debits being on top of the amounts. In the same way that laurel has pointed out that there is £300 hidden in that data that your flatmate is trying to swindle you into paying a share of when you are not responsible for it, there is an equal potential to hide as much again in estimated or customer reads of meters.
Go with what laurel says.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -

If you simply believe the bills are based on accurate readings, then you can simply pro-rata the start and end dates. Assuming you moved in on the 24 Nov, and left on the 24 Mar, then the bills, from the info supplied, are
24/11 - 1/2 £420
1/2 - 8/2 £26
8/2 - 24/2 £58
24/2 - 24/3 £66
Maing a total of £570, or your share, £190.
If you've paid £140 so far, then you owe another £50.
You really need meter readings, but if you can't get them, the above is about as close as you'll get.
(Incidently, the payments and balance are totally irrelevent to the sitation, but I suspect you'll have a problem convincing your flatmate!). But if you examine them as laural did, you'll see the £100 difference from what your flatmate wants and what you should pay comes about from the debit balance at the start and the credit balance at the end.0 -
If I was you I would be REALLY curious as to how often the bills were estimated prior to you moving in. Where is your meter kept, if it's inside the flat is it not possible that the meter reader hasn't been able to gain access in a long time so bills have been underestimated, hence your flatmate getting a really big fright when an accurate bill is sent to her?
I don't understand why there is a bill for November, nothing for December or January, but 3 for February?
Is the flat in question a newish one or are we talking one of the old ones with high ceilings and next to no insulation?
Personally, I think she is playing you. And you definitely don't owe her a third of the £180 that is now in credit in her account.First they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they fight you, then you win.0 -
Yep pretty sure she's playing me. I was in the flat from 24th November to 31st March so have now sent her this email which she's going to look over tomorrow. It means I owe £41 for it which seems much more realistic, I think I've been clear enough here to get this resolved, does this seem ok?Me wrote:Hi,
I’ve looked over the information and I think I can now be clear over what is due etc, I will explain my workings so we can sort this out. This is the Bill and Payment History as taken from the printouts you gave me covering my period of residence. Obviously the top £180 relates to your new flat, and the bottom £178.02 is before I’d moved in so they can be discounted. This should be the same as your online account so you can double check I’ve got all the figures correct. I've uploaded it to imageshack so I hope it's clear enough to read

The Bills/Charges side contains the information relating to what I owe. As we worked out earlier the total of £92.43, £57.63, £25.93 and £494.28 taking away the £67 for the 11 days I was not in the premises comes to £603. This is the total amount owed between the 3 of us for the time I was in the flat, including the direct debits.
This can be shown by balancing it against the Payments figures
£249.26 + £177.33 + £180 + £60 + £60 + £60= £786.59
Taking away the £116.28 that was in debit on the account when I arrived and the £67 from the 11 days I was not in the premises, this also totals £603.
Over the course, this means I am due to pay one third of £603, which is £201, of which £160 has been paid already through 4x £20 D/D’s and 2x £40 additional payments, meaning I am due £41 to the cover my share of the bill. Adding this to the agreed £40 deduction for damages etc, I am due back £239 from my original £320 deposit and it would be great if this could be paid into my bank account as soon as you get a chance0 -
If you are still up I would edit this pretty quickly, as you have included your bank account number and sort code on a public forum!!!First they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they fight you, then you win.0

Other than that, I would love to see her face when she reads that email. I think you may have nailed her there.:jFirst they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they fight you, then you win.0

Tell her to "jog on" as I think she is trying to do you over0
-
Maybe she's actually just thick and doesn't understand the bills and payments herself. A lot of people are adamant they know what they're talking about, but are actually thick and have no idea they're thick.0

Jeez that was stupid with the bank stuff, thanks for pointing that out. I think the email has been worded nicely enough whilst making it clear that this is what I should be paying, I don't see how she can have much off a comeback to it as I think I've explained it quite well0
