Anyone know anything more? Is the government planning on closing all jobcentres in the country to save a few pounds while at the same time making all the current staff unemployed and adding to the ever increasing jobless?
Your source is not reliable. They are centralising jobcentres not putting them online.Amazes me some rumours people start.

As I never stated my source, you have no right to declare it unreliable. For your information, my source is the manager of the local job centre. Perhaps however this source is not good enough for you. Had this been a rumour circulating around the local pub, I would not have posted.0 -
When I was eighteen the Jobcentre was essential to job-hunting. Things have changed. I went in with my sister last year and basically was told there was nothing in the JC that wasn't on their website. That she would be better off going around shops asking for work as the JC was employers last resort. No wonder job seekers get so demoralised with customer service like that.
So it doesn't surprise me that the government want to downsize its operations.0 -
Would be nice for jobseekers to have the option of being able to actually 'sign-on' online.
No point in actually going to the job centre and spending money on travel when all you do is sign a piece of paper that takes 5 seconds and walk out again. Better just to click a button from your computer.0 -
its a way also of keeping an eye on you making you go in. Make sure your not working on the side.:footie:0

It's about time they did this! Save a fortune even with the extra unemployed staff. Not like they were useful for anything anyway.0

if you dont go in and sign on how will they check your diary though?:footie:0

Yes, but if you are living on £65/week then £10/month is quite a lot of money.GothicStirling wrote: »So surely you would fork out the £10 a month for internet access then? they could make you type out what you have done online instead/as well as filling in the book, then someone in the DWP office could check it and if it's not sufficient do exactly the same as they would face to face in the JC when you sign on in person. I'm sure that 1 person could probably check a lot more "signings" online than face to face.if you dont go in and sign on how will they check your diary though?
I would much prefer to sign on online, It costs me £4 to get to the JC and I'm usually sat waiting 3 times longer than I actually spend with the person signing me on. It's a total waste of time and money.0
