Virgin "lose" order to make more money

UPDATE - it is only fair to report that we have now spoken to someone else from Virgin Media who has resolved our issues & restored our faith in customer service people to actually resolve issues.

We recently signed up with Virgin Media via their webiste for home phone & broadband when they were offering 6 mths 1/2 price charges.

Despite us having an order number we have been told our order does not exist & we will have to re-order. In the meantime the 6mth 1/2 price deal has ended & the prices have gone up. It is going to cost us £62 more over the minimum contract term.

Maybe I am just too suspicious but it seems to me that Virgin have deliberately lost our order in order to make more money out of us.
Are we just an isolated case or has anyone else had issues like this with Virgin?

There's £65 cashbach through Quidco / £65.65 through TopCashBack unless you're too late because you've already ordered (that is on top of any VM discount you might be able to get).

VM are far too inefficient to have deliberately lost your order.
