Don't think I'll see my cat again :-(

My cat Sophie is elderly (about 17) and the past couple of days has taken to wandering off. The first time, I found her out the front on next doors drive looking a bit bewildered and the second time she just turned up in the kitchen and was by my feet.

Yesterday though, I went off to work. Cats are locked in the kitchen, but have outside access through the cat flap. Other cat Mia doesn't venture far and always comes running to you when you go out into the garden. Got back in from work about 6.10pm and no sign of Sophie, went out into the garden, out the front and walked round the block to see if any sign but nothing. Hubbie said he spoke to some kids out playing and they said they saw her on the neighbouring road at 3pm.

I went down to the emergency vets down the road, to let them know she's missing in case anyone hands her in.

Here's the thing though, her health had started to deteriorate recently, ie:- walking round in circles, bad poos (had even spotted traces of blood in it), randomly messing even though there is a litter tray. Even the vet said yesterday, that she could have gone off somewhere to "die".

Poor Sophie :(

If she comes back you could think about keeping her in, giving her a litter box and a nice warm bed to sleep in - then you'll know where she is and will be able to get her some help with any pain she might be in.

I do hope she comes, back, my cat is only 4 and she disappears and doesn't come back for days and I worry, so I know how worried you must be when she is old.
  • I really hope that you find Sophie. I have experience of an elderly cat wandering off to die, but fortunatley we knew where her chosen spot was. For your peace of mind I trully hope you find her. At 17 I imagine she is a true member of the family. Fingers crossed for you and Sophie.

I have experience of my cat wandering off too- she was getting on a bit, 14 years I think? Used to jump and claw me when I arrived home- I'd taken all my partner's attention and she felt there wasn't enough left for her!
Started coming in the house with me- and being so nice and sweet once she realised I was the soft touch. She'd been losing massive chunks of fur, and seemed lazier- vet just diagnosed old age. Didn't come back one day, and I know she's left to find her place.
Saying that, cats are arbitrary by nature. They can be content to be lazy purring housecats, and can decide they want to roam again. :) Maybe she's just decided to take a trip around the neighbourhood? I hope she comes back for you.

I hope you find Sophie, my cat is around 20, she does not go out in the Winter but now the sun is out she will have a walk round the garden but I only let her out when Im there and then I'm checking where she is as she is deaf and a bit wobby on her legs and I worry she might go on the front, but she is usually asleep in the conservatory most days.
    I hope she returns soon

    she hasn't come back :(

It feels really strange. The litter tray also hasn't been used, so it was only Sophie who was using it (in a fashion, she quite often missed her target and did it over the side or on the floor), my other cat Mia goes outside and does her business, so I'm going to take the litter tray away now and put it back if/when we get another cat or when winter comes round and Mia won't want to go out.
