As the previous readings were estimates, you could have been behind for a long time assuming the current one is correct.
Agree, if you have your old bills work backwards to fiund the last elec one that had an Actual rather than estimated reading. Post that reading and date and restate actual reading and date from this bill. This will allow us to see how much you have actually used and over what period.

£500 is a good price for the consumption you are being charged for.

You have to find out what is eating the electricity. You have to demand your landlord gives you access to your meter.

(Crossed with you posting previous bill: Well, 5000 kWh over six months is saner than 4000 over three. But you have to identify what the 27 kWh per day sink is.)

It looks more like the electricity reading you gave for April 6 is wrong. Check the meter again. There's almost no way you could have used that much electricity in a month.

I think I'm going to ask them for a key to the cupboard.

I'll get another reading today. I think my previous bill was too high as well.

    Hi em80

Already some good advice on here. Thought I would just add a couple of things.

The plan you're on is not the most cost effective we have available. There are better prices/discounts for managing your account online and paying with a Monthly Direct Debit.

I would also pop your details on to the comparison sites. These will list out all the tariffs currently available, both with us and the other suppliers. Choose the option best for you.

We're always happy to look at payment arrangements to help spread the costs over a more manageable period. Give us a call if this is something you would be interested in.

Going forward, you might want to think about reducing your usage and we can help with this. Talk to our Energy Efficiency team. Give them a list of your appliances and they will be happy to advise where savings may be made.

Ask for a copy of a booklet called '100 ways to save money by saving energy.' It's free and contains lots of good advice to help you save energy.

Check out our website, too; particularly the Interactive House and Energy Fit campaign. More good tips here.

Hope this is useful em80. Give me a shout if you need any more info as will be happy to help.

    Hi

    Thanks for the info :)

It turns out I was given the wrong meter reading by the care taker. I will have a look at the comparison websites to see if I can get my Gas/Electric any cheaper.
