Hi All
I have bought a new laptop and was going to load Money 2005 onto it - but I snapped the disk!! As a non techy - I don't know if there is any way to load it onto the laptop as I have no CD - but have it working on my desktop which is aging and becoming infirm!! If anyone can offer any help I would be grateful -either the loan of a disk or any other suggestions. I can provide proof of my broken licenced copy

Not easily - you would need to move the program and data files over.
However, the licence agreement will only allow it on one pc so technically it maybe a civil offence to put the program on 2 computers...0 -
thanks - my plan is to have it on one pc only as its my lifeline to money management and don't want to have to make entries on two separate pcs or keep copying back ups onto each - so I want it on my new laptop which hopefully will go everywhere with me - no plans to break the law in thatJohn0

Anyone got any ideas on how I might get my Money 2005 onto my laptop without the cd?John0

Personally I would never use my original disks, I always copy the disk and install from the copy. My original is kept in prestine condition and should I get a problem such as yours, I can make myself a new working disk from the original.
As you have a legitimate serial number etc. I would probably look to try and download another copy but use your good serial number
You could also try getting in touch with Microsoft, they may send you a replacement disk (unlikely but worth a try) I actually think this is how it should work, you send them the damaged disk and they replace it. No need for copying disks then which technically is still piracy, even if you own the original.0 -

If you are making backup copies of software where you own the original disks then this is perfectly legal in the UK (as long as it does not require circumventing of any copy protection mechanisms)."She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"

yes but a lot of the time there is protection on the disk0 -
peculiar thing bout money 2005 is - no sign of any licence number on disk or packaging - and i really don't remember one on wrapping either - i always make a point of recording licence numbers in my little black book - shame i didn't take time out to copy the disk safely.John0

For games maybe but I've never come across any for apps, especially any MS stuff. Their protection is purely registration based with activation procedures etc. So backing up something like MS Money should be straightfoward and legal."She is quite the oddball. Not 100% sure but wouldn't you need the serial number even if your disk was fine in order to install it on your laptop?"She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"
