    ok towseriv but i fail to see what is rude about telling a customer you don't have any of a product? what i do think is rude is responding to this with a cheeky quip, getting the same back and moaning about it.

    do some shop staff go on courses in how to be rude?

    i was in a card shop today looking for birthday wrapping paper and asked a young assistant. she snapped at me 'aint got none', i asked 'why dont people have birthdays in december?' and she replied as walking off 'obviously not'.

    i was so flummoxed that i didnt even think of complianing!

    anyone know if they are contactable via email?

    well i think this is 6 of 1 and half a dozen of the other, you asked her a question and she snapped at you and then you came out with a smart comment, at the end of the day people are only people no matter where you work... and if someone is rude to you then just because you work there doesnt mean you are paid to take !!!!!!!

    i dont think i can be @rsed tbh. i should have complained there and then.

    it is annoying though come crimbo that card shops tend to sell minimal, if any, birthday paper and cards.

    Exactly we had to go to about 3 or four card shops to find a suitable birthday card the other day! and its the general cards they seem to get rid of, and they drastically reduce family ones too!!!
  • I have loads of family who have birthdays in Dec or Jan so I now buy earlier in the year as its impossible to to get cards or paper for them after mid november till after the sales in Jan. It makes you feel like Dec and Jan birthdays don't count.

    It wasn't "smart," it was smart followed by a synonym for donkey which the moneysavingexpert forum decided was an expletive. No-one was claiming people don't have birthdays in December and you made a cheeky remark to try and make the staff member feel stupid. Any complaint you should be making should be about the lack of birthday paper not the way the staff member was with you. First off all the staff member done was tell you they didn't have any, what more did you want? a chocolate watch for your troubles?

    Teedy, yes, both should be treated with respect, but based on the OP i don't think it's the staff member that failed to show respect first.

    i think youll find the way she snapped at my intial question was enough for me to believe she was being rude. there is no need to snap at a customer.

    she = rude

    me = asking a question. legitimately. if perhaps a bit sarcastic. which i believe is within my right considering her attitude.

  • Having worked in a card shop, this happened all the time in Nov/Dec. It makes the customer seem rude and makes us less lightly to help them.

    The majority of times the person is buying for family and say, I have this problem every year!

    Makes me think then BUY IT EARLIER, its not like you didnt know their birthday was comming up.

    the comment was sarcastic, but fully deserved! This realy bugs me, I have three birthdays in nov and dec and buying cards is a nightmare.

    How helpful! I have to buy for four birthdays in December and I'm not the best organised person (I admit it) - but I still think there should be a decent selection of cards and paper. Not sure about the birth-rate statistics, but December babies will have been conceived in cold and miserable February, so I should imagine it'd be a mini baby boom!;)
