Crayford?

  • I felt compelled to register, just to respond to this post! I have lived with my family in Crayford for almost 5 years having moved from London to get more for our money. The best move we ever made. There is a real sense of community and I have never had any problems, The area is home to two of the best primary schools in the borough (St Josephs & St Paulinus) and we are going to house the new Europa gym that is set to train our olympic gymnasts. Redevelopment for the area looks promising and it is well placed for Bluewater and Lakeside. I actually like the fact that shopping facilities are nearby but not imposing, means less congestion but enough to suffice (Nandos, Sainsburys, Barclays, Peacocks etc.. are in Crayford). I think it is easy to label an area you don't live in. Why not spend some time in Crayford and make up your own mind?:T
  • p.s not as good as Welling, how do you work that one out? ;)

Sorry, but I wouldn't recommend either Welling or Bexleyheath. I lived in Welling for a while (just off the high street) and I have to say it's one of the worst places I've ever lived - horrible atmosphere, rough as anything, full of unpleasant characters and very scruffy. I commuted into London and it's an awful journey, not one I could face on a daily basis for a long period. I'm glad I was renting as it meant I didn't have to stay there! What really made me keen to leave was the day when a neighbour decided to hold an armed siege in his house ...

They're really not THAT bad. I've lived in Welling my whole life and, yes there are some not so nice parts and yes there are a few 'chavs' around but you get that in any area. There is generally no trouble there and not once have I ever felt unsafe in my home town or any other town nearby, i.e. Bexleyheath, and I'm certainly no chav or roughian!

Welling High Street isn't the best place for shops it mostly just consists of take away places and hairdressers which is why it's great that Bexleyheath town centre is only a 5 minute drive away. And the commute to London certainly isn't awful. Most commutes are horrible to some extent but compared to commuting from other places it's very easy taking only 25-35 minutes and trains go to all major London stations.

Welling isn't better than Crayford there's just a bit more to do I think. If you want a night out though neither Welling nor Crayford is a great place for entertainment which is why it's good having Bexleyheath close by where there's a cinema, bowling and loads of restaurants and bars.

In my opinion all these places (Welling, Bexleyheath, Crayford, Sidcup, etc.) are great places to live. They pretty good value for money house wise, there's quite a bit to do, and if you want to do something else you're still quite close to Central London, Greenwich, the O2, Bluewater and Lakeside.
