Awww, you're all so lovely. I wouldn't have got it sorted without you all though. With these posts I felt as though I kind of had back up and for some reason OH seems to take this into consideration every time. I'm glad to be on this forum just for the help and advice, even if it's not really moneysaving lol.

Laura, thank you for those links. I'm gutted that I saw them AFTER transferring money into our savings account though, coz I can't get it back now. I'd be there this afternoon if possible. I'll be keeping an eye on the bridal village site and if the sale is still on in a fortnight I'll have a little word in the MIL's ears and see if she can accompany me. Ooooo, so exciting.

Emz, get well soon hunni. I don't like hearing people are ill but I'm glad I was able to put a little smile on your face. Cuddles to you x x x

Jinky, you silly mare. I said before that I like you because you're honest and that means I'm the honest sort too. If I had a problem with what you'd said I'd be telling you outright. Honesty is always the best policy :-)

MrsDrink, you're so lovely. I promise if we do go to Oz I won't rub the pictures in your face :-) OK, I might show you a couple but to be totally honest, one of the reasons we'd go is that accomodation would be free for at least the week we were in Melbourne, so big bonus there, and with the scheme OH is with we can get another £400 off. That's a saving of about £1000 and that's the only reason we're considering it. If it wasn't our honeymoon we would never in a million years even considering going there.

Laura, just looked at your link for your thread on Yorkshire brides. I've looked at it before and had to giggle. Never EVER recommend Gomersal Hall Hotel. OH's dad has just retired from there and he was glad to see the back of the place. He once paid us to stop there for the night to see what the service was like and let's just say I'm glad he paid us for the experience. As for Oakwell Hall, it's Oakwood Hall. Lovely place but the menu is too fancy for people like me and at £50 a head excluding drinks and a £7 corkage fee, and a minimum of 30 people for a main meal and 80 for a buffet it was no good for us. It's about 5 minutes walk away from where I live. Very beautiful but very costly. And if you're having a small wedding they won't let you do it on a Saturday. Stick Steeton Hall Hotel on the list too. The place doesn't look much on the website but it's actually really quite pretty, and the manager is a lovely bloke. OH doesn't want to go there for the meal though, he'd rather have somewhere that concentrates on being a restaurant rather than a hotel. He's too choosey.

Thank you all again. You've made the whole thing a lot easier, and I'm much more positive than I was yesterday morning. Have just got my wedding dress out (I bought it off ebay last year) and showed it to OH. He hates it. I'm glad because it's bloody massive and I'll be weighed down. He once said I'd look good in a slinky little number and didn't believe him. I look like a loo roll cover in this dress, even though it is absolutely stunning lol, so I reckon a slinky dress is on the cards.
Yaaay, I finally conned a man into making a honest woman of me. Even more shocking is that I can put the words "Happily" and "Married" into the same sentence and not have life insurance on my mind when I say it ;-)

So glad you've managed to find your points of similarity and compromise, screamer. Great stuff!

I had another thought about the car. Is there any chance your Dad might know someone (a friend, former colleague, via car owners' clubs..) who owns a Roller and might be able to drive you for a smaller fee? Especially if it's only a short journey? Or perhaps you could look into one of the classic car rental places so your Dad could actually drive you himself (if he might enjoy it)?

Best wishes with the planning :)

    Good luck

Just to say my friend got married in full wedding dress at the local reg office, then walked hand in hand with her hubby, and children down the street, to the restaurant, they looked so happy, all the car in the street honked their horns, they waved back, even the local buses did the same, and the passengers waved.

The restaurant did the tables up with stuff and favours they dropped in the day before, set the cake up etc

The bride go loads of people coming up to her to congratulate her when she went out to the smoking area!! she just so loved it.

She didn't look out of place at all.

Wow, I can't believe I'm still getting replies. Please forgive any typing errors, am currently typing in the dark lol.

Dekazer, I've asked my dad if he knows anyone and the simple answer is no :-( I've tried signing up to various Rolls forums but am not getting anywhere. I used to be in the Aston Martin Owners Club and that was quite elite, this one is proving a little more complicated than that one. I won't give up yet though, and thank you for the brilliant idea :-) As for driving himself, he has something called Focal Dystonia in his neck. On a normal day he can barely lift his head, on a bad day his head "twitches" constantly causing extreme pain as well as limiting the amount he can move his head. He does still drive but only if he has to. Poor fella. For this reason he will NEVER drive a car that doesn't belong to him. Wise choice I say. Wish him happy birthday btw, he's 68 tomorrow. Happy birthday Daddy, I love you loads x x x

Everything else I will return to tomorrow. I just wanted to acknowledge the replies. This forum is awesome x x x

I have no idea if this is even possible... but there are websites out there (just done a google) where you can hired a duel controlled car. I'm just wondering whether there is a Rolls out there with duel control so your dad could be in the driving seat with the knowledge that there is someone to step in just in case. I know it's a long shot cause really who would be learning to drive in a Rolls!

Hello Screamer, just read the thread from start to finish and I'm really glad you've sorted things out! Just thought I'd add, if you want your fiance to take more of an interest in the wedding, there is a wedding website for men (and I disagree that the wedding is just about the bride!!) - it's https://www.iamstaggered.com, I've read it myself before and had a massive laugh over some of the articles on it! Hope that helps.
