If the long distance thing is emails and so on and you've never actually met him and his family - and he hasn't been here and met yours then DON'T DO IT. This is the biggest, easiest scam, keeping loads of women going - one or two of them are going to fall for it.

If it is a long distance relationship where you have been flying back and forth to see each other and you've been making plans to be together then tread with caution - is there a good reason why this guy hasn't managed to save up 7K - in the sceme of a four year relationship this is not a lot of money to save towards a future together in a serious committed relationship. Speak to your own family and firends - what do they think?

  • I agree that it seems (without further information / clarification) that this is some kind of scam, but if the OP has met her boyfriend regularly, met his family etc. and considers they are in a loving and stable relationship (and trusts him, of course) and STILL WANTS TO DO THIS she must first sit down a seriously think about what she is proposing.

£7k is a lot of money. I would seriously think about lending / giving that much money to my boyfriend and we have been together for 9 years and live together. The reason is that when it comes to money, people are greedy (generally) and you have to protect yourself as much as possible.

OP, you must seriously think about this - the implications for your future if it all goes wrong. Not that it will, but what if. Protect yourself as much as you can.

This sounds like a Nigerian scam.
It is nice to see the value of your house going up'' Why ?
Unless you are planning to sell up and not live anywhere, I can;t see the advantage.
If you are planning to upsize the new house will cost more.
If you are planning to downsize your new house will cost more than it should
If you are trying to buy your first house its almost impossible.

New house. Bigger mortgage. MFWB after I have my buffer cash in place.
  • I'm not going to go the same route as everyone else and say it's a scam, because I don’t think it is, I believe in true love and I hope you two have found it.

    However, what I will add to this is the following;

    1) As others have said, living together is a very different thing. Make sure that as soon as he is able to he transfers the money back to you. Last thing you want is things not working out and you being left with the repayments

    2) If you do do this, make sure you definitely pay it all back straight away. Greed is a very cruel mistress, it'll be very easy to convince yourself to maybe spend a grand of the loan on 'Some bits for the house' and then 'A little holiday somewhere because you deserve it' and before you know it you've talked yourself into spending 7K

Personally I wouldn't do this for him. Love is beautiful but maybe find another route. Depending on what he will be studying maybe he could have his education sponsored by a firm or organisation.

    Be vigilant my dear.
New Years resolutions...don't get my signature removed and set up an A-Team style MSE crack survival team. P.S Apparently mrb1 and David 32 hate me. This makes me sad :(

I find it interesting that the OP hasn't appeared back.

It's either a troll (which I strongly suspect it is) or someone who is so convinced that the 'love of their life' wouldn't scam them that they're ignoring everyone.

To me it seems like the 60 year old women who are convinced that their 25 year old Turkish lovers aren't after a visa and cash, and no one will tell them different.

It's an odd one. Hope it's a troll, because I'd hate to believe that someone was so silly as to fall for this.
