Sage help

Hi, i'm posting on behalf of a friend who's absolutely desperate. The story is this, she runs a small business and has been using Sage Instant Accounts v8 for years. She had to format her pc last week and when she tried to reinstall Sage she found that the disc was damaged and would not load.
No problem i thought, took it to Asda who do a disc clean and repair for £1, no joy. Phoned Sage tech support, tried various things but still no joy so told her that she'd need to upgrade. Latest version is 17. Not even sure if it will be compatible with her saved data.
So basically what i'm looking for is someone who has v8 to copy the disc and post it to her, she'll cover any cost incurred. Don't need serial # or activation key as she's already got them and is registered with Sage, just need a working copy of the disc, i know it's a real shot in the dark but you never know.

Copy the disc? Is that legal?
I'm sure the penalties for directors of companies is even worse then individuals for such a thing.Helping the country to sleep better....ZZZzzzzzzz0 -
It's a backup, which is legal, what penalties could be incurred for using a legally bought and paid for serial number and activation key that you own. As i've already stated, not looking for anything other than a copy of a disc which the person already owns but is unreadable. The money and therefore the piracy is in this case using illeagally obtained keys or keygens not in the reproduction of a cd that has no value without proper documentation0

support for Instant v8 ended Sept 2008, (this was notified May 2006)
thats when she should have updated to the newest version.
there have been 4 versions after v8, the current one being the 5th newest version, Instant Accounts 2011
she needs to get the newest version
if there are problems with importing the saved data, at least then theres a possibility of getting support from sage
she should also check what else is being used thats no longer supported;
she does know that WinXP support ends in 2014, & so needs to have upgraded by then?0 -
Are there other ways to try to repair the damage to the disk?
In what way is the disk damaged?
Did Asda just clean it or try to remove or repair scratches?
If it's just scratched I think there are some solutions that try to remove or lessen the damage enough for it to be read?
Have you tried the disk in other PC's?0 -

Unfortunately people get attached to their software. I did some work not so long ago for quite a big company. Their accountant would only work using Pegasus software on an old windows98 machine and of course an IT support guy on permanent standby to keep it going.:rotfl:0 -

Not too sure what is the fault with the disc, it is scuffed and scratched, Asda put it in the machine then didn't charge because they felt that it had not made any noticeable difference? I've tried the disc in my own pc and used Anydvd to make an .iso however this also fails to load. Basically what happens is that as installshield starts it unpacks to 99% then crashes with an error message and code 105. I've searched the net and tried various "fixes" without success. As someone else suggested upgrading via Sage may be the best option as she may get help if her data is not supported.0 -
may be (at your own risk) try polishing the CD to lessen the scuffing enough to get it to read better.
there's various suggestions on the net as to what to use.0 -
Did read some of those, if all else fails i probably have to try0

She can send her data to Sage and pay them to convert the data to work in the latest version of Sage. At the end of the day when she gets a new PC (whenever that will be) she will not be able to load Sage Instant Accounts V8 as it will not work with the latest version of windows.
Tell her to stop living in the past and keep her Sage version up to date. If this means ponying up some money to do it then tell her to do it. Anyone using an accounting program that was written 5 years ago is just asking for problems. If my post helped you in anyway, please hit the "Thanks" button! Please note any advice I give is followed at your own risk!0 -

Pay Sage to convert, buy a new pc and pony up the money for a newer version, not exactly money saving advice. I do though agree with what you say in principle, she has made a mistake in not realising that software needs to be updated from time, in her defence, doing accounts and wages is about the only time she uses a pc and is a complete luddite. No matter though, lesson learned i suppose.0
