Go on Hamish, tell us what gear you have, you know you want to.

At the moment? Nothing impressive at all.

Just a cheap-ish Bose surround sound system that's mostly used for movies and the ipod.

Sold all my high end gear some years ago with the intention to upgrade, and never got around to replacing it.

Did tick the box for the B&O system option in my car though. Makes a world of difference. Still not really high end, like some aftermarket systems can be, but does the job.

Following a train of thought from Nirvana, I always felt this was the best version of a great song.

I was born into a culture that regards literacy as strictly optional but does music. I forged my mothers name on my first library card and started working my way through everything ever written. Ever genre fascinated me, there was nothing I didn't appreciate.

But I just never got music.

I was driving home one day and hit the wrong button on the radio. I ended up sitting at a lay-by looking over the Solway listening to this and weeping real bliddy tears

Love his songs. One of the greatest songwriters ever, but don't like his voice:o. I love this album of covers though, have worn out several copies, though I know purists will hate me for it:

On topic to the board was that he lost his pension fund. This prompted him to tour again (which was when his stuff was flagged up to me ) to raise a few quid.....but he then said he absolutely loved toruing and performing again.....so carried on.

    The 2005 bankruptcy
On 8 October 2005, Cohen alleged that his longtime former manager, Kelley Lynch, misappropriated over US $5 million from Cohen's retirement fund leaving only $150,000.[33] Cohen was sued in turn by other former business associates.[33] These events placed him in the public spotlight, including a cover feature on him with the headline "Devastated!" in Canada's Maclean's magazine.[34] In March 2006, Cohen won the civil suit and was awarded US $9 million by a Los Angeles County superior court.

Lynch, however, ignored the suit and did not respond to a subpoena issued for her financial records.[35] As a result it has been widely reported that Cohen may never be able to collect the awarded amount.[36] In 2007, U.S. District Judge Lewis T. Babcock dismissed a claim by Cohen for more than US $4.5 million against Colorado investment firm Agile Group, and in 2008 he dismissed a defamation suit that Agile Group filed against Cohen.[37] Cohen has been under new management since April 2005.

Love that YT...I am like you too, not mad about the voice either and prefer her version.

Guns n Roses......I'd forgotton them...loved a bit of G+R in the late 80's......still prefer Slashes new band though....he was the man behind the music.

I love Leonard Cohens voice. He sounds like a dog being dragged !!!! first over a motorway and it just does it for me.

    Covers, bleh.

The Aretha Franklin thing is brilliant. All really good songs, like all really good poetry, have one line that draws you in and holds you

...... when my soul was in the lost and found...

EDIT Just listened to your link of raincoat song. Not a singer I ever listened to before.

    Viva, WOW. Just wow......

Glad you enjoyed it ws. Jennifer Warnes was LC's backing singer and by all accounts he sat in on the sessions. Have a read of the first review on Amazon, here, and you'll get a better idea how the album came together.

Here's a few more links from the same album if you fancy exploring:

This one's a collaboration with LC, bit different from the album version: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M1AyA3X_vQA

It's hard to get links to all the tracks as its a bit obscure now.

Of course, she's far more famous for this:
