What is the best phone & broadband package?

I am currently on Talk Talk but the connection is being cut every time I try to download anything when I use downloading software.
The connection sometimes drops for minutes and sometimes for hours, it's chronically bad and I am disgusted with Talk Talk so I'm going to switch.
I need a good download allowance (preferably unlimited) and no nasty surprises in the small print that allow my ISP to throttle my speeds.
I'm getting a headache trying to sort them all out, the packages are confusing and the comparison sites all seem too keen to push Sky and Virgin - I've used Virgin and they were crappy and I have no interest in Sky Satellite TV since I never really watch it and it's too expensive.
I can afford a more "premium" broadband service but nobody seems to be offering one! Even if I'm willing to pay extra to be able to download what I want, when I want, there don't seem to be any internet service providers who actually provide such a service.
I was considering BT but then I read they are guilty of throttling their speeds at peak times and blocking p2p quite aggressively. I'm fed up.

I use Plus.net, and they're great, but don't offer what you're looking for (can't get unlimited and they throttle). However, BE offer something approaching what you want, and generally get good reviews. They use the same network as O2 I believe, so you'll have to check to see if they have their boxes at your exchange. https://www.bethere.co.uk/web/beportal/homepage0

Put your phone number in http://www.samknows.com/broadband/broadband_checker to see what LLU suppliers are available, the only true unlimited i know of are Bethere and Sky.
You don't have to have a TV pack to get Sky Unlimited Broadband £15 p/m without.
When you used Virgin was that cable or Adsl as i thought the cable product was supposed to be very good.0
