Bank call centres

Just tried to close an esaver account with Santander which can only be done by phone, and the call goes to India.
Took three tries to the stated phone number before the woman would do the closure. The other times I was told to phone another number which turned out to be on-line technlcal support.
I've had enough of Santander, but am I likely to get the same customer support in other banks - Lloyds, and Barclays. Will it be a foreign call centre.

Lloyds TSB use UK only call centres, open 24/7.
I spent 25 years in the mobile industry, from 1994 to 2019. Worked for indies as well as the big networks, in their stores also in contact centres. I also hold a degree in telecoms engineering so I like to think I know what I’m talking about 😂

There's no bank that can guarantee you'll always get good customer service, but if it's good telephone banking you want, First Direct can't be beaten. The phone is answered within seconds, by an actual human being, and they take responsibility for getting stuff done - they'll go and find out information and come back to you, rather than passing you from one department to another.

HSBC do have international call centres for some things and odd hours but I've never had an issue understanding the person on the phone or getting reasonable service when not speaking to someone in the UK.

First Direct are miles ahead of everyone though.

I only joined first direct a few weeks ago and it has been excellent so far, today when I had a query I was on hold for around 30 seconds whilst she checked with another department - all very fast and efficient.
So a big thumbs up to first direct so far! :D
(And there call centres are in Leeds & Scotland - so always guaranteed someone within the UK).

Halifax call centres are all UK based. However what difference should it make if you speak to someone in a foreign country should be irrelivant, you can get bad service anywhere in the world.

On a different note why don't foreign banks have their call centres in the UK? :rotfl:

Not a bank but a building society: Coventry Building Society.
Location of their call centre? The clue is in the name.

Seconding (or fourth-ing :)) the First Direct recommendations. The first time I rang them up to sort out account opening things, I didn't even notice that I'd got into the habit of putting the call on speakerphone and not paying attention to it until after the first few "your call is important to us" messages. When the phone was answered within a few rings I was so confused it took me a few seconds to even remember what I was meant to do!

Since then it's been consistently high. I even called them at 10:30pm on a Sunday night a few weeks ago, and as always got through to a real, UK-based person after two or three rings.

Simply miles ahead of everyone else.

    Hmm, Coventry....

    Coven-try.

    Coven TRY?
Coven (noun) - a group or meeting of witches
The Turkish lira (currency sign: TL; Turkish: Türk lirası; ISO 4217: TRY)[1] is the currency of Turkey

So we're looking for a well-funded group of witches based out of Turkey. Getting that far was easy, but I can't narrow it down to any locations within Turkey... where would witches hang out if they were moonlighting as call centre employees? :grouphug:
