Just received my Nemaslug nematodes in the post and hoping it will be a big help in the war against slugs!
As it was expensive, I want to make sure I do it absolutely right.
Is now a good time to apply it? What happens if it gets really cold again?
Also, is it possible to apply it in a gravelled area or is that a waste of time?
Wish I could think of a way to get it under the patio slabs...
ETA: MEant to post this in a new thread but hopefully it will get noticed on here...0 -
I wish some of you would set up your own discussion thread rather than hi-jack this one. There will always be differences of opinion but it would be nice if we could offer each other help and support instead of the constant sniping and that includes some of the long-time and/or organic gardeners. We don`t all `know it all` and even if we did, we should allow other people their opinions without getting hot under the collar. Now take that as a slap on the wrist and let`s move on
yumyums, I was thinking about nematodes but as always it is a few £ here and there and it adds up. I hope it works, I think the nematodes have to be kept damp. It the long distant past I used to go out with a bucket of water and a torch. I was too squeamish to stand on them so I drowned them but dd always tried to rescue them. I still can`t squash them with my foot and the most I have done is drop a rock, once0 -

I've got a slug phobia so I couldn't deal with picking them up at all (even with gloves on). I'm hoping the nematodes work.
I'm confused about the instructions though - from reading about nematodes it says they actively seek out the slugs and they multiply too, so I don't see why the packet says the application will only be effective for 6 weeks. Also, if they seek out the slugs, surely it doesn't matter if you "miss a spot" ?0 -

It's because they are minute [tiny]. Did you find out how they worked before buying them?If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.0 -

As I am sure you well know
I was observing that, so called liberal minded Greens are most illiberal when faced with those who dare to differ from them.
As for martyrdom (lol), I find typed insults on a web forum hardly threatening, they merely confirm that most Greens simply cannot tolerate dissenting opinions.Freedom is the freedom to say that 2+2 = 4 (George Orwell, 1984).

Nothing to do with me not tolerating your stance, more to the fact that you write total gibberish.
I'm not even going to bother arguing it with you.Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.0 -

I did - I understood that the nematodes have bacteria in them, and when they enter the slug, that bacteria causes the slug to die.
What I didn't understand is why you need to reapply every 6 weeks as my thinking was, once they were in your garden and multiplying, they would keep having the same effect on the slugs. I don't understand what causes it to stop being effective. It's not like the nematodes all die after 6 weeks. Anyone know why this is?0 -

Because once they kill their prey [the pest for which they have been bred] they die back to natural numbers....If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.0
