iPad 2 refund from comet

Hi, I bought an iPad 2 on the 28th march 2011, I am going to to return it and ask for a refund on the 7th April, it will then be about 10 days old from when I since purchased it.

During this past week I have discovered a fault with the screen 'bleeding' due to the backlight, this fault has affected lots of other users on the web with their ipad2's. So when i take it back to comet can I demand a full refund instead of a replacement or repair?

I have seen that under the sales of goods act you are allowed a reasonable time to check that the goods are of satisfactory quality and fit for purpose, i think 10 days is reasonable.

I will be calling trading standards on the day of the return, so do you guys think that I cam demand a refund because of this reasonable time?

Demanding something does not tend to get you far, all it does it get peoples backs up. You may request a refund due to the item being inherently faulty and rejecting it within a reasonable time.

No point in calling TS, they do not deal with general consumer law questions. You could call Consumer Direct if you wished for further advice.
    Gone ... or have I?

Be very polite, they will be much more likely to try and help :)

They may not allow a refund and try and replace it as only some are affected, I'm typing this off my iPad 2 and it dosnt have any problems.

The Internet is a bad place to go to find out if products have problems because a) you only ever go on a forum to moan neverto say "this works ok" b) apple products attract so many trolls bashing them for faults that may appear on only a few units, like this one.

Then again with such limited stock they may not be able to exchange and offer a refund :)

Sounds like buyer remorse. Why would you just not want it replaced? Why are you calling trading standards?

    Two points:
    1) 10 days for an iPad? In my opinion, that's probably longer than you would need to inspect such a device. But of course, I'm not a court. For starters, you'd never fit 100 people in me...
    2) I assume Comet have a 14/21/28/30-day returns policy for faulty items, within which you can get a refund or replacement.
    Squirrel!
If I tell you who I work for, I'm not allowed to help you. If I don't say, then I can help you with questions and fixing products. Regardless, there's still no secret EU law.

If you have an Apple store nearby, take it there, they will exchange it for a new one if they have one in stock, make sure you make an appointment with a "genius" in advance, you can do that on Apple's website.

I bought one a couple of days ago that has a significant yellow tint to the screen, I"ve booked an appointment at an Apple store today, I'm hoping they replace it if they have stock, if not I'll keep it until they have a better one in stock, Apple are very good at dealing with problems.

I was gonna suggest that, until I remembered OP just wants a refund. I quite often direct customers at work to the apple store, because it's in the same shopping centre as my shop, and while it can take 2 weeks for me to send off an ipod for a repair, the apple store usually swaps them over on the spot.

Like others, go to an Apple store. Despite Apples reputation I've read little but good things about their customer service at their stores. And they know what they are talking about unlike Comet are likely to.

Comet are understandably reluctant to give refunds on any product. We had a fridge which was faulty and the line was discontinued and there was no equivalent that met our satisfaction, but still had to spend about half an hour arranging a refund (not arguing, the sales man was perfectly pleasant, just spent a long time pointing out alternatives)

Apple have agreements with all stores that sell their products.. You won't have a problem getting a refund.
Aside from the fact that they won't have another one to give you anyway.
  • The above poster is correct. You can't find an iPad 2 anywhere at the moment.
I try to help as much as I can. But I'm also honest and speak my mind.

Smoke free since Jan 2014 :D If you want any advice on quitting please send me a PM. :)
