Customs duty & Import VAT from the US to the UK on gifts

Not an ebay question but I thought you would all know a lot about postage.
If my cousin sends me a gift of a $530.00 buggy/pram from the US to me on the UK, whats the minimum Customs duty & Import VAT I would need to pay (he really is my cousin).
Also any recommendations for the cheapest postage service to get a buggy/pram posted over here?
Its 16lbs and 10" x 24" x 30" boxed.
Thank you:beer:

Can no one help with this?
I was on the customs website, it said it applied different rates for different items!!??
Which is why I said it was a pushchair.0 -
It will be 20% VAT of the total cost (item cost and postage cost). There may be import tax which you may need to check out the hmrc website to find out which category does the gift fit into0

What ever the import duty % is, add to the value and then its 20% VAT on top of that.
You could use a "dodgy" invoice but then that would effect things if it went missing.0 -

I'm sure I read for gifts its just the value not the postage.
Its the import tax info I can't find on the HMRC website:mad:

Reading through some other forums, its seems its all a bit hit & miss, you may or may not get charged. Any idea of the ratio?
Is it charged for both (Customs duty & Import VAT) or none?
Is that how it works?0 -
Don;t forget handling charges as well, they are often the high ones.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. IF HMRC stop your parcel as it enters the UK via the courier, they will take the value declared on the parcel paperwork, add an import duty which another poster said was 4.7% and then HMRC will add 20% VAT on top - so on effect it'll be the cost of the pram £500 + 24.7% taxes and postage as well.
So 24.7% of £500 is £123.50 which is what you'd have to pay if HMRC stop the package.Anger ruins joy, it steals the goodness of my mind. Forces me to say terrible things. Overcoming anger brings peace of mind, a mind without regret. If I overcome anger, I will be delightful and loved by everyone.0
