have to agree with cooking something you love and your family love,
My best sucess cooking for my in-laws has been cooking "my" home-cooking my take on keema, rice (which has lots of lentils and veg mixed in) has been the winner - it doesn't really resemble what you get in an Indian restaurant at all but is a mish-mash of fav foods my parents cook. black lentil broth and rice and yummy mince curry Mmmmm.
It's funny cause I always used to worry about what to make for them- My family is Mauritian and DH's is English and were intially a little stand offish about trying things like that ( well that and the huge culture shock of meeting my family- think My Big Fat Greek Wedding and you are nearly there!) but they love it now.
Cook something you are confident cooking and that won't mean you are tired and stressed and any picky comments just state that that's the way your family like it!
Good luckIf you're afraid of the big bad Woolfe....beware of the Mrs!:rotfl:

I feel truly blessed having a MIL that can't cook, it makes me look SO much better

Myself and DH have both stopped eating the sausage rolls at her house because she doesn't like them too hot so just warms them to perfect salmonella breeding ground temperature under the grill. My FIL must have a cast-iron constitution to have survived it for so many years!Make £25 a day in April £0/£750 (March £584, February £602, January £883.66)
December £361.54, November £322.28, October £288.52, September £374.30, August £223.95, July £71.45, June £251.22, May£119.33, April £236.24, March £106.74, Feb £40.99, Jan £98.54) Total for 2017 - £2,495.100 -
Mrs Woolfe - LOVE the idea of the wedding - gorgeous!!!
OP - What I would do is a tea - some sandwiches - ham (provide some mustard / pickle for those that want) and some egg mayo on white bread, with plenty of cups of tea and some cakes - get one of those value sponges, prise it apart and put on some buttercream icing and some extra jam, then sprinkle icing sugar over the top. Also buy some scones - put them in the oven very very low to warm them through - then pass them off as your own! Hide the plastic bags before your OH gets home!!!
Its a bit of a special night - so you could do a bit of a high tea - quiche and salady stuff as well, but I'd keep it simple. Best of Luck xMe, OH, grown DS, (other DS left home) and Mum (coming up 80!). Considering foster parenting. Hints and tips on saving £ always well received. Xx
March 1st week £80 includes a new dog bed though £63 was food etc for the week.0 -
