Tiscali Intermittant connection

Hopefully someone can answer this...

I have been haveing problems from about day1 of having Tiscali Broadband.

I can startup the computer, do what I need to do. But if I leave it connected idle for more than about 1.5 hours, I appear to go link dead.
The lights on the modem are ok, icon tells me that I am connected, but no web pages, not outlook email, not able to ping anything.

Has anyone else had this issue with Tiscali, if so how did you fix this.

P.S Changing providor cant be done for at least 6 months :mad:

What modem are you using? Tiscali provided or own? USB Modem or router?

Tiscali supplied USB sagem modem. Tried 2 other routers but could not get them to sync up...

Ditch the USB thingy and set up the router which should be very easy. More info here. If you still have problems, ditch Tiscali ASAP.

espresso, as mentioned cannot get 2 other modems to sync up at all, they cannot find the Boradband signal. One was manufactured by DLink, the other by Lynksys.
And still they both cannot find the signal.

The odd thing is that I can still recieve 8mb connection and download at around 240kbps, so when I can connected, it is getting the true connection.

Well you are obviously doing something wrong when you try to use the routers! When using a router, you do not use the same connect method as when using your USB modem. Simply disconnect the USB modem and connect to the router using Ethernet and log into the router and enter your username/password - couldn't be much easier!

I know how to connect to a router espresso.
I work as a solution intergration engineer for Sun Microsystems.
THE PROBLEM WITH THE ROUTERS (YES ROUTERS. I HAVE TRIED 2 DIFFERENT BRANDS) I CANNOT GET THE MODEM IN THE ROUTERS TO SYNC WITH THE BROADBAND SIGNAL, hence I have not been able to get the service working with a router.

Well if it won't work with a router, they are not providing the service as advertised, so that is you get out of jail card!

But the service works with thier own modem. Suppose I could attach the router that doesn;t sync, call the helpdesk, and see if I can prove no connection that way, just hope they dont run a RAS test between calls. This would show any connection between 2 dates.
