Has anyone had success with Visa Debit Chargeback recently
I have just been into 5 banks and 2 building societies and asked
for information and I have never seen so many blank and confused faces!
I realise there is information on this site about this subject but it was interesting to see if Banks had become more aware of it.Seems not!!

Not recently, but I have done a couple of Visa debit card chargebacks in the past when I was with A&L (pre Santander mess up) with no problems. They wanted it in writing that the payments were not authorised ( I once had an issue with a company taking payments after I told them to stop), and they credited my account immediately, and I also did a chargeback for goods I had ordered online but never received, and was the getting the runaround from the merchant. This was a couple of years ago.Debt free and staying that way! :beer:0

Ah Santander now they are another story! Are they doing "faster payments" yet or is it still snail mail!!
Good to hear your success with Visa chargebacks.0 -
If you have any queries with Visa chargebacks, wouldn't it be best to speak with visa? After all, the only way to have a chargeback issued is via the card provider and not the bank itself.0

It's the bank that initiates the chargeback, as they are your card providerDebt free and staying that way! :beer:0

Most banks have specialised Visa Disputes departments who deal with these queries, it's not necessary for counter staff in branches to know the regulations for chargebacks. The regulations run to many thousands of pages, lots of jargon and codes which wouldn't mean anything to anyone who doesn't do this for their job. (thats me !)0

Whilst this is true, it might be better for branch staff to not blithely tell people that they can't make such chargebacks which has happened to me on more than one occasion.0 -
Yes your bank should be able to instigate this for you, sometimes they refer to it as a disputed debit card transaction, or non-fraudulent debit card transaction, however on visa debit you are required initially to contact the vendor for a full refund as visa chargebacks cannot be instigated until after 28 days from the original date of debit. Don't let the bank fob you off either, but they are correct in that you initally need to try to contact the vendor first for a full refund.
I've done the odd few at my work where customers have had no joy (usually online transactions) completed a request and they've got their monies back but it can take a while just be aware.0 -

Then how do customers contact you if your telephone and counter staff when asked about " Visa Debit Chargeback" (only 3 words!!) doesn't register with them whatsoever and that they don't even offer to look into it.For some reason Banks don't seem to want their customers to know of its existence and given the millions of transactions using Visa Debit and the huge problem of fraud I thought if they had their customers interests at heart they would promote it widely.Even a leaflet might help.0 -

Different chargebacks have different timsecales, most can be started 15 days after the debit or when the goods were returned, ie non receipt of goods, non receipt of refund, not as described, faulty or damaged goods. The regulations changed last October. You have to be able to confirm that you have attempted to resolve your dispute with the retailer first.
Why did you go into 5 different banks asking for info ? If you have a dispute and you contact your own bank, they will explain their procedures to you, can't see many banks discussing Visa chargebacks with someone who isn't their customer. The Visa regulations change on a regular basis, usually twice a year so for branch staff to be up to date would be practically impossible. I've worked in Fraud and Disputes for 17 years and even i have to look up the regulations for some disputes, and it's all i deal with, every day.
It's usually stated in your Terms & Conditions as to what to do if you have a dispute, i also think theres a sentence mentioning this on every statement now.0
