can I open another ISA?

I'm in the process of transferring my ISA to Halifax. I started the process last financial year. I've not paid any additional cash into it this financial year.

Can I now open another one? I've seen the Santander one, which looks pretty good, especially if the BoE puts interest rates up. Can I use that one to put my 2011/12 allowance in and just leave the Halifax one with what was in my old ISA?

OK, you realise the financial year hasn't finished yet?

The new tax year starts tomorrow, not today.

However, from tomorrow (;)), yes you are correct, you can open Santander one (if it's still available) and use that to deposit your new allowance. But be quick about it. You can (well you could last week) apply for Santander now, and it will be setup next week sometime for you to deposit money into.
  • thanks.

And oops - I didn't know the financial year started tomorrow. I actually thought it was yesterday! Why Wednesday?

It's always the 6th April. Same date every year. :)

From 1753 until 1799, the tax year (for personal tax) in Great Britain began on April 5 :D But there weren't any ISAs then.

Its been starting on April 6 since 1800.
