Using iphone upgrade with different sim?

Hi guys, advice needed.
I pay for a monthly contract for my wife. Personally I have a phone on PAYG as I do not use a phone enough to justify a contract.
She is now due an upgrade phone but she wants to keep the Nokia phone that she already has.
I wondered if I could get her an iphone4 upgrade and use it myself and let her keep using her own phone?
I asked Orange and they said I couldn't do this because the iphone takes a different sized sim.
I suspect they simply want me to take out another contract which I do not want to do.
Can anybody advise me if there is a way to do this and use the iphone with a PAYG sim and leave my wife with her phone as it is?
Thanks.

Yes, it can be done. You just need to cut down your normal sim to thew size of the micro sim. There are various quides to doing this online.
Just bear in mind the amount of data that an iPhone uses, when compared to a normal phone though.0 -
Make sure you have a payg plan with data included or you'll use all your credit inside a day. The iphone lives online.
And, as above, the iPhone 4 take a micro sim, much smaller than a normal sim. There are cutters on Ebay for making a standard fit, or just cut it down.0 -

Whoops - Thanks guys. I never considered the data issue. I'll look into that side of it!0 -
I take it you're both on the same network, if not the iPhone 4 will be locked to your wife's network.
Orange do an iPhone 4 PAYG Sim which includes free data and wifi.0 -

Had the same question.
Just wondering how it works the other way - presmably you get a microsim for the iphone with your moblie number. So if you give away the iphone (and another microsim gets put in it) does the old normal sim carry on working as always with the old phone?0 -

If you mean the large sim you had before getting the iphone/micro-sim, then no it doesn't. You'd either need to ask the network for a full size sim again, or just get a sim converter that you put the micro-sim in and makes it into a big one again :beer:0 -
Thanks. So you have to use the micro sim sent with the upgrade to activate the phone - you can't just use another cut down sim/micro sim on the same network?0
