Hi, really tempted to get the lamb whole leg but it is far too large for our family of 3.
    Is it possible to:
    a) cut in half (Not sure how I would cut the bone?) and freeze
    b) de-bone the joint, add stuffing in its place and then string and cut into smaller joints?

    Thanks

What does that bit mean sorry?

It appears to work for medium joints and the sml probably means small, im only guessing though.

MAGNUM GOLD 3 PACKS WERE HALF PRICE IN TESCO TODAY (£1.23) - not sure if it applies to the DTD varieties as I didn't have time to check. Can anyone confirm?

It is Magnum Classic, White and Almond that DTD at the moment

Do we all think it safe for SS Editors to put barcode down as starting with 02365 ?
Yes, but best to be more specific - 0236586 0XXXX Y, where XXXX is the price.

If you do a search for lamb:rotfl:I know their's hundreds of posts, but someone posted a recipe for it which I'm sure consisted of cutting it into "steaks" and then freezing it. It was on saturday I think?

    So to summarise..................

    Tesco
    British beef
    Topside/Toprump joint
    with added basting fat

    price per kilo £8.48
    price per lb £3.85
    weight 1.122(kg)
    Price per pack £9.51

    Barcode on mine was 0 236580 009519

    In clear hard plastic packaging.

Do we need to add to the spreadsheet that the beef must be greater than 1.1 kg, but still in the "medium" section (which in practice is probably quite a small range!

From what I've seen the size that people seem to be getting money back on is 1.1 -1.3 kilo

So that's it I think. As long as it says Top Rump and it's barcode starts with 0 2365 it should be a good DTD

    DO NOT BUY THE SILVERSIDE
    DO NOT BUY THE SILVERSIDE
    DO NOT BUY THE SILVERSIDE
    DO NOT BUY THE SILVERSIDE

    Buy the TOP RUMP!

    :D:D:D:D
Thanks everyone, I'm off to buy some!

Google, how to debone a leg of lamb, theres lots of descriptions including videos of it on youtube.

I'll be cutting mine into steak size pieces and bbqing.

For those buying the large whole lamb legs, if you think they are too big for you to use on a regular roast, why not shove them in the freezer and wait till summer BBQ.

Then defrost, and with a sharp knife, cut out the bone and open out the meat into one massive steak with an even thickness ( its easier than you think)
Chop up loads of fresh mint, rosemary, garlic and put the boned meat in a freezer bag with the herb mix and some olive oil, rub it well into the meat and leave overnight to marinade. Then when ready to cook just throw it on the BBQ and turn occasionally untill its done to your liking. Carve into thick slices and serve with mint sauce.....
