Walking/Camping - what food to take

Hi
Our daughter is doing her silver DofE which includes 4 days walking and 3 nights camping. She needs to take all her food with her so it needs to be light and not need to be kept in the fridge. We have ideas for evening meals which she will cook but are not sure what she could have for lunch. It needs to be easy and quick. She isn't keen on the vacum packed ready meals or pot noodles.
Thank you I look forward to you ideas.

Bananas
Ritz biscuits
Peanut butter sandwiches (without any other spread)
Jam sandwiches (ditto)
Muesli bars, you can buy or make yourself
Cake, some robust fruit cake
Packets of dried fruit, or just a whopping bag of sultanas
Plastic pots of jelly and/or fruit. Buy in the little tubs, or get some vacuum-sealed tupperware style pots and make your own up
Packs of jelly cubes, as they come
Peanuts/other nuts0 -
Bunch of carrots0

It's still cold out there, does she like cup a soups?
Even if she doesn't like potnoodley tyope stuff, put some in and she can trade them.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Old style MoneySaving boards.

OP, good to see your support for your daughter's D of E silver expedition.
However, isn't planning of it a task that she and her travelling companions should be carrying out?

Did she do her Bronze, if so just more of the same.
As they carry all their stuff, be careful with items that can get squashed easily. Use an ice cream tub as a light box.
My DD can't eat the pot noodle kind of food, but does get on really well with the vac pack stuff. She's doing hers over Easter.
My DS did his bronze last weekend and we tried out some pasta and sauce. The pasta is already cooked so easy to prepare and just add a sauce mix, he loved it. You can also get boil in the bag rice etc.. with a chilli or curry sauce.
I do agree that it's part of the prep work; so she should have already sorted this in her prep day, or she will if she hasn't had one yet.
Quite often they will work as a group and instead of having individual days, they will be responsible for particular meals for the whole group. This works so well as then they only need to source 1/2 meals. They will still need to provide their own snacks though.0 -
Don't do as my mum did to me and give her boil in the bag kippers. They were fine until I cooked and ate them but then I couldn't get rid of the almost overpowering smell of fish off the plates or cooking pots.
At one stage a cat followed us for nearly two miles before losing interest.0 -

We used to take all the bread out of a bread bag, make peanut butter and jam sandwiches and put them right back in the bag. Then bring trail mix, beef jerky, veggies and hummus. And if you make your own granola bars, they aren't so packed with high-fructose corn syrup and other processed stuff.
For a great recipe, Google 'smitten kitchen' and 'granola bars'0 -
Good luck with the silver0
