During my lengthy chat with Egg today, one thing was made very clear by the security guy I spoke to: There have been no suspicious transactions made on my card.
I pushed him to explain why the letter stated that "...we have identified a potential security risk on you Egg Card."
He caved in and said that Egg hadn't identified anything, they were acting on the direct instructions of VISA and that no reason had been given for the request.
Have VISA had a breach or lapse in their security causing the potential release of customers account details?
Who knows? One thing is for sure- telling me my card will be blocked with less than 24hrs notice is a real pain. And having no card for up to seven days doubles the pain. As for having to contact all my online merchants to change card account details, don't get me started. Through no fault of my own? Where's my compensation? I've raised a letter of complaint with Egg as the VISA site is very clear- VISA don't issue cards, if you have a complaint with your card, contact your issuer. If I don't get an answer from Egg, I'll submit a FOIA request to VISA to try and get to the bottom of this. We must be just the tip of the iceberg, surely an investigative journalist can pick this up and run with it......and then the window licker said to me...0 -
I've had the same letter today completely out of the blue. The only thing I can think of is that this card had been used on the Playstation Network and what with the recent highly publicised breach, maybe Egg are just being over zealous.
Whatever it's going tobe a real pain as I have some recurring payments on this card.0 -

I got the letter, have never used the Playstation Network, but have shopped on Amazon a lot in the last month - buying CD's and DVD's from the seller of whom we do not speak his name (z*******cks).

I have also used the card on amazon within the last month.0 -
Well mine is not Amazon, my egg card on my amazon account expired in early 2010.
The last internet retailer I used my card for a purchase was play.com in January.
