New Passat 2.0Tdi Blumotion

Considering that car must be very new, that's amazing! Normally need running in of a few months before getting the best figures.0
-
What the O/P and i are talking about though is over an entire fill of mixed driving - i would say overall you're getting high 40's maybe early 50's on yours overall.
Actually I'm getting 55.59 MPG overall thanks.
Not bad for a 7 year old car that cost me £3,000 - but I'd certainly consider the Passat when it's time to get rid of my Mondy.:A0 -
I had a 2.0 Passat Bluemotion. there was just about a 2% inaccuracy of the trip computer compared to the actual fill to fill method.
Mine got an easy 62mpg on average. Sometimes broke 65mpg over the course of a tank.
The car was capable of 1,000 miles between fills at times.
Yup, the only accurate way to measure it is to do it manually. Often, the trip computer will be close, generally when cruising, but with more variations of driving there will be a greater anomaly to the figures so it's always best to check.
Either way, it's very impressive to achieve figures like that but I'd never pay over £20,000 on something wholly designed to save me money, especially when something for £3000 can do something similar. My opinion entirely but I also couldn't think of anything worse than travelling up and down the motorway in one.0 -
Well I suppose if nobody bought the new ones the supply of £3k older ones might be hard to find. I do 20,000 miles plus per year with my job and whilst it's not the most exciting car in the world it does its job really well. As for excitement is that what my brother had with his Alfa 159? Will it start or won't it? Wonder what's going to go wrong today? Yip don't you just love excitement!0
-
No, excitement's what you could have bought with the change had you just spent £3-5k on a diesel mile muncher and used the rest for something fun. At only 20k miles per year it's not like a 100,000 mile snotter would become unreliable.
I appreciate and applaud the engineering in the bluemotion. I just don't understand the ethos behind buying one. A diesel which will do 70mpg is built for economy and aimed at people who don't want to spend any more money than they have to, yet it costs £20k to buy in the first place.
That's a perfectly reliable second hand Passat for £5000 which will only do 15mpg less than the bluemotion leaving £5000 for 830ish gallons of diesel which should last two years and £10,000 for something interesting.0 -
Glad that I can have a BMW Z3 2.8 in the garage for the fun bit! I think we will agree to disagree.0

Tend to agree.
As with any aspect of living it's usually worth looking at the big picture and not just get carried away with one particular headline fact. I try to start with a blank sheet of paper and list all options which meet my listed need and/or want. There are usually many angles from which to view choices. Often a compromise is somewhere between my wants and needs, depending on state of personal finances.
Rarely are wants and needs identical !......lolNever trust a financial institution.
