Trip computers are wrong, no doubt it's economical but try to work it out properly and let us know.0

Yeah but makes you wonder, doesn't it?
Tell you what, dodo ... wanna give me first refusal when its done 130K? I'd be game to try the next 130 - nice car - quality economy and value without a doubt0 -
Yeah but they are dull as ditch water...0

My 150k 6 year old Mondeo manages >60MPG quite often - less if the wife drives it. I don't hang about either.
However on the MEG forums, people say they get as low as high 30's with the same engine. I'd love to know how.0 -
Same car as Hammy here but only 146k on mine
My trip computer often reads over 70 MPG but it's around 10% too optimistic, so you do need to work it out manually if you want an accurate figure.:A0 -

I had a 2.0 Passat Bluemotion. there was just about a 2% inaccuracy of the trip computer compared to the actual fill to fill method.
Mine got an easy 62mpg on average. Sometimes broke 65mpg over the course of a tank.
The car was capable of 1,000 miles between fills at times.0 -

They are very good at what they do - comfortable motorway cruisers.
They do exactly what it says on the tin.
How much 'fun' do you expect to have in motorway traffic day in day out - which is where these cars are at home?0 -

I would suggest your car is quite some age?
Trip computers now in passats are around 2% inaccurate.
Also, i would suggest your car never averages over 70mpg on a fill - perhaps on specific journeys or for short instantaneous periods.0 -
Exactly my point, it has averaged around 65 MPG on a long motorway journey but it's 10% optimistic if you go by the computer. It's a 7 year old car.
I've just had a look and the 1.5 Passat is even more economical.:A0 -

What the O/P and i are talking about though is over an entire fill of mixed driving - i would say overall you're getting high 40's maybe early 50's on yours overall.
On long runs i could get an easy 80+mpg in my Bluemotion - i think the best was 90.1mpg over a 25 mile commute one morning on quiet roads.
Yes, VW are doing 'Bluemotion Tech' as an add on to most Passats & Golfs now. Thats what the O/P has got - not a pure Bluemotion model.
The new 1.6 Bluemotion is 105BHP and will probably average somewhere in the high 60s.0
