Hi, I work in a pharmacy in the west midlands and can confirm that we have been able to obtain stocks of marvelon now. However, I believe it's still on restricted supply so pharmacies are only able to order a certain number a week for now until it becomes more widely available again. HTH.

OMG i'm so glad i found this thread- i was switched to gedarel on the advice of pharmacist- who said it was the same active ingredients but due to different brand/manufacturer could have some side effects not had before (assume this is the use of cheaper ingredients)
My doctor insisted on switching me to microgynon but having been on marvelon for 16 yrs i refus to stop. insisted he give me gederal and after some warning about clots high blood pressure etc he conceded to me!
Only now i am reading this do i think i have actually been having mood swings- i also experienced some wierd period pain like sypmtoms at night a few times a month way out of sync with the usual period time.
Am coming off some other pills so maybe that's contributed but maybe not. Not sure what to do now...
Might make an appointment for marvelon now you guys say it's available...

thats what annoys me about doctors... they LIE!!!!!! They know things arent the same or have zero knowledge (ironic) and just sprout tripe about how its 'exactly the same'. if it was the same it would have the same name. It's not like its been rebranded like Jif to Cif!

with sumthing like the pill they should know just casually switching would cause problems in ppl. I swear they make me sick!!!! so glad i didnt change!

To be allowed to sell the drug, the manufacturer has to prove that it is the same as the original brand.

Anybody who has experienced new side effects as a result of switching from Marvelon to Gedarel should report the side effects to the medicines regulator at http://yellowcard.mhra.gov.uk/the-yellow-card-scheme/ If enough people report serious adverse effects, then the licence for the drug will end up getting withdrawn.

Marvelon is now available. Lloyds say they can fulfil 6-month Marvelon prescriptions.
