That's interesting. I tolerate Marvelon really well, but was SOOO ill on Cilest. I had raging migraines and just constantly threw up when I was on it (I wasn't on it for long as you imagine!)0 -
Marvelon is available presently here in Northern Ireland.
And our prescriptions are free ( but maybe the pill always is? I dunno)
So if you can get a script for it and send it someone here ( I'd even do it) then they can post the pills to you.

Is anyone else still having trouble getting marvelon? I'm really not getting on with the gedarel they keep giving me... Marvelon helped keep my acne at bay but it's returning now I am using Gedarel and I am getting terrible mood swings0

My GP told me it was the same thing with a different name. But I'm experiencing the same things as you! Also had nasty period pain during the break last time & it was much heavier than before. It's putting me off having a pill break this cycle.
I was worried about saying something in case I was imagining it/ it was a coincidence because they seemed pretty clear on it being the same drug. Don't wanna be one of those idiots demanding a drug purely on the name & not what's in it0 -
Hiya,
Don't quote me on this, but I would think that Marvelon will no longer be available, MSD has closed it's doors! The Company is near where I live and I used to work there when it was Organon, it was taken over by Scherling-Plough then MSD, know a few people who worked there and they were all made redundant around Christmas.
I'm not using any contraceptive just now but was previously using the transdermal patch - can't remember the name of it, and it was great.0 -
I also have had problems switching to Cilest - only took it for 3 days as it gave me chronic abdominal pain, headaches and dizziness :-S Luckily my local pharmacy came to have Marvelon in stock after those 3 days (this was in January).
My prescription has recently ran out again, and I was notified by my pharmacist this morning that they have no Marvelon in stock and have been having difficulties getting any in stock, however she checked on the computer if she could order any - SHE COULD! Hopefully I will have my pill by this afternoon... after the ordeal with Cilest I really do not want to change pills again.
Also, in regards to the company, The Independent stated in January that:-
"The manufacturer, MSD, is blaming the shortage on supply problems caused by its takeover of rival Schering-Plough in 2009" - not the best of excuses admittedly, but at least this means the company is still running! Current debt... June 2012 £11,712.10 :mad:0 -

I went back to the docs today.
They seemed to think I was being stupid claiming problems with gedarel.
I know that its meant to have the same ingredients but after a year on marvelon with no painful bleeds then 2 nasty ones on gedarel plus my acne being worse I didnt want to keep trying with it. She was saying 'so you're not happy without the brand name then' so I said 'well I would be if it had kept affecting me in the same way as it did before' but I still felt like she thought i was being silly/making it up
I switched pills to something different anyway!0 -
Hi, i was on Marvelon for some 5 years and then 5 months ago i went to the doc who wrote a prescription for marvelon. When i went to the pharmacy they said it was not in production, so they had to call the doc and let her know etc etc. She then gave me Gedarel, which is awful The effects from that are not even worth taking the pill. The mood swings and the tiredness and the queasiness of it all has made me stop it. I have an appointment with the nurse and I am going to ask her to give me something new. Any suggestions or what has been working well for the majority of you? I never knew marvelon was linked to blood clots....gee thanks for the info, but a mere 5 years too late. I believe this Gedarel has the same properites as marvelon therefore they change you to that in the first instance , but also i have heard that the chemical properties that are used in gedarel are some cheaper form then marvelon therefore half the women on this cant be on it cos of the side effects.....0
