Hastings day's out ideas with a 4 year old please?

Hi,
We're going to Hastings with our 4 yr old over Easter ( Sun holiday) and are after ideas for nearby places to go that are affordable, and any family resturants that you'd recommend?
I know there's a smugglers cove place, but as it's in the caves, I think he'd be too scared to try that one!
Many thanks :)

Cosmos Chinese is on the seafront, all you can eat for around £10 adult .St Clemants caves up on the East Hill is worth a visit even with a young one as they seem to be geared up for younger visitors now.Theres the fun fair on the seafront which is ok,theres plenty of fish n chip shops too, theres Clambers there too which is indoor play area for little ones if it rains.

At the Rock-a-nore area which is Hastings Old Town theres a decent Sealife Centre which you little one will love. There may be a show suitable at the White Rock Theatre as they have a fair amount of childrens shows. If you have a car then Drusillars is a decent day out..Link below.

Starting from the Eastern end of the seafront there's the Blue Reef Aquarium in Rock-a-Nore Road (expensive for what it is), opposite that is the Maritime Museum (free but donations requested), you could head down to the breakwater and a shingle beach for a mooch, along from the Maritime Museum is the Fishermans museum (free donations etc) further along west is the RNLI station which is normally open (free donations etc). Behind the RNLI station is Flamingo park with some kiddies rides. We normally give them a few goes and never travel with them - pay in tokens, strap them in and let them whizz around. There's a boating lake, go-kart, golf and a railway that runs back to the Aquarium.

George Street is pretty interesting for a mooch around. The East Cliff Railway is situated along here and if you take it up there's a small playground at the top of the cliff.

There's 1001 fish n chips places to eat. My girls like the Unwind Cafe on George Street and Simply Italian on the seafront.

*nods in agreement* I would recommend this place too: http://www.drusillas.co.uk/ - it is 22 miles from Hastings (good ole google maps). It's really good and people I've spoken too in the past (ie, only last year) have quite enjoyed it, definetely aimed at children :) I've been there when I was little and I liked it than and what I've heard it's still good too :) Also, http://www.rhdr.org.uk/Specialevent_details/49 might be of interest, not that close to Hastings, but still quite good :)

I also second the note about the Sealife centre, that's good too :) And Clambers is always popular :) My above posters have already covered quite a few places in Hastings hence why I commented on places you can travel too :)

VE, Simply Italian does nice food, not eaten in the one in Hastings, but I've eaten in the one in Rye, East Sussex and it's good food :)

Apart from Drusillas one of my favourite places when the weather is good is the Eastbourne Minature Steam Railway: https://www.emsr.co.uk

You buy entry and also a choice of a multi-ride card or unlimited rides. There's a play park, walk around the lake and of course the rides on the trains. The cafe is reasonably priced although everything is outdoors, but you can take a picnic with you to cut down on costs. We often spend the day here with the kids playing, us reading or mooching and every now and then go for a train ride.

    I've been Money Tipped!
    Drusillas is amazing.

I grew up in Hastings, and my kids are now 6 and 4. When I've taken them back we've done

Drusillas (AMAZING PLACE - loved it when I was a kid, its just got better with age.)
Mine spend hours playing on the beach (I prefer here) - it's a pebble beach, so wellies is a better option than shoes. Rock pools galore at Warrior Square when the tide is out

Best fish and chips in the town is here IMO - Oceans Eleven, close to the beach play.

Other posts have covered the tourist stuff

Alexandra park has lovely big play area and a boating lake and ducks to feed.

West Hill (the hill the castle is on) has a big play area at the top of it. My kids love walking down the hills.

They also like driving out to Winchelsea Beach
    - when the tide goes out it is mud beach, like Weston, so you can get stuck in quite easily!

Don't think anyone has mentioned crazy golf? Hosts the world championships every year!!!!!
Who made hogs and dogs and frogs?

Pett Level end has a Pre-historic Petrified Forest at low tide where people can walk over the remains of the Forest millions of years old and theres also the Smugglers Pub...It is great fun looking around all of the rock pools at low tide.....Most of the beach isn't mud now, longshore drift has moved lots of sand so when the tides out theres plenty of sand.....
