After swiftcover tried charging me £75 for changing address (2 miles away) I have decided not to use the net again for car insurance after using it for the past 3 years for such.
I've just had my renewal email through from swiftconners and took it down town to an actual shop with humans in, Swinton insurance brokers. I had a very nice chat with a female human and was made to feel right at home.
She beat the quote by 7 pence too.
That may not seem a lot but I was not expecting them to get within £20 of swiftconners. My new policy is with AXA.
I asked if I change address again what will she charge me as an admin fee, £25. Thats much more reasonable.
swiftcover are the cheapest online generally, but they mug you when you make any changes to your policy. Be warned.

Your old policy was with AXA:My new policy is with AXA.
"Swiftcover Insurance Services Limited is a wholly owned subsidiary of AXA UK plc which forms part of AXA Group"
Plus change in premium. Switcover charge £30 plus change in premium - the £45 must have been the difference in price.I asked if I change address again what will she charge me as an admin fee, £25. Thats much more reasonable.
What can I say? :rotfl:Swinton0 -
As glider has pointed out, Swiftcover are part of the Axa group, Swintons will hit you for more charges than Swiftcover did.
As with most people, I'm not a fan of either
P.S Don't try and cancel the Swinton policy as the nice lady will hit you with a £50 fee (Even if the policy has not started) and also reclaim all of any annual discount they allowed you, these are on top of anything the Insurer will charge0 -
To be fair Swinton are not exactly renowned for their performance either. Lots of stories on here of demands for repayment of their commission/costs if you want to cancel a policy (on top of the actual insurance company cancellation costs)
Still, you pays your money etc……… hope it works for you
Coincidentally one of our lunchtime topics today was car insurance…..two people were of the view that the comparison sites are getting more expensive than going direct to insurance companies so maybe the age of the comparison sites is coming to an end0 -
Well I'm happy and certainly no worse off finacially. At least I know any issues can be talked about face to face for free not on an 0870 or preminum phone number.
I can't say I didnt try it, I gave it 3 years and had hassle by both net companies I used, didnt make a claim from either.
I never had a problem with Swinton, I was with them for 10 years prior. I fell for the comparison adverts and went with it. Lesson learnt.
And with regards to swifts admin fee, you actually change the address yourself when you log into your site details. So, exactly what is the admin fee for when i do all the work regarding changes ?
The extra £45 was a con too, I logged into the site and asked for a new quote based on my new postcode and it came out £10 a year cheaper than my old postcode. So the extra £45 was a con and so was the £30 admin fee when I did all the admin.0 -

Now that I can believe. Even if all your counter-fraud, pricing and segmentation are spot on, most of what you get through aggregators is cheap, poor quality business which is highly price elastic.0 -

This is hilarious....You are blaming the world wide web for Swiftcovers price increase? And you have moved from AXA to AXA...??? Ever heard the saying "you get what you pay for"?Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. I'm blaming swift for trying to screw me for £75 admin fee when it required no admin and the postcode i moved to was a lower risk than the one I left.
I have not moved to axa, that was a priced matched quote i have yet to take up.0 -

Do you know for definate that the £75 was an ADMIN fee... or was it just the additional premium for the change in address as what you consider to be 'lower risk' may not be the case for insurance companies.0 -
yes. As soon as they tried to con me out of it i went back on their site and typed all my details in for a new quote at my new address. It came up £10 cheaper per year than I was paying at my old postcode. I conclude from this that the new postcode area is not a greater risk so therefore they should not be trying to fleece me for moving there.
My policy was £141 TPFT, so to be asked for an extra £75 when 6 months into it, just for moving 2 miles is scandelous.0 -
i found the aa was the cheaper than axa by at least 100 pound
