Car Hire Additional £20 a day!

Booked a hire car for when I go over to Belfast through Holiday Autos but just found out I need to put down £850 deposit on a credit card in my name (which I do not have) or pay £20 a day waiver instead!

Can this be true?! Is there any way to avoid the waiver other than pay the deposit?

Never booked a hire car before but didn't think it would turn out to be this frustrating.

All hire companies that I have used always require a credit card to cover the insurance excess.

I'm surprised that they won't need a card even though you are paying for the supercover insurance because in my experience there are exclusions to the supercover which could still result in you being liable for certain damage to the vehicle.

Only other option is a debit card or a prepaid credit card but you will have to have £850 in the account when they swipe it or it will fail.

You are driving off with an asset worth thousands, they need some surety for it!
