Hello Newbies - wish you both loads of luck!

Hope everything goes well Sue. DH went at 58 too but it is a long time to wait until 65 for him to get the old age pension! We don't have any debts tho and I have a bank pension from my 1st husband who died 21 years ago and DHs Royal Mail pension is ok. Quality of life is more important than cash and DH was told to stop work by Drs etc. I am only 50 tho so another 10 years before my bank pension pays out let alone an old age one!

I have to be 63yrs 10 mths before I get the State Pension, so a while to wait for that, but OHs pension is pretty good so we should be okay. He hates the thought of stopping, he thinks it will be the downhill slope. He had a heart attack and triple bypass 3 years ago, he's recovered very well, but I think he is scared that giving up work will be the beginning of the end. He took up Archery a year ago so that he has something to fill the time when he does pack up work.

My DH loves not working! He loves breaks and holidays and is an avid reader so is perfectly happy being under my feet all the time. We do a lot of walking too. He does do his share in the house and running the kids about tho so can't complain. He is happy letting me comp too as he loves freebies Our next holiday is paid for by comping not to mention a few nights away we have had with Intercontinental Hotels.

Now this is where we're strange. We're both Sagittarians, the sign which is supposed to love travelling, but we both hate being away from home. We've been married for 36 years and have had 2 proper holidays (years ago). On both occasions we came home early. This why I'm so pleased that our Daughter is finally spreading her wings and travelling. She's 35 and up until last year had never been on a plane or had a proper holiday. Now there's no stopping her. Maybe we could do some weekends away once we both stop work, I could cope with that.

    apolgies for posting..

but there is a comp on Real Radio,Scotland to win a holiday to Vegas. you have to listen to six songs, then take the name of the artist, rearrange and you get a word connected with Vegas.?

Any one know anything about this?

Internet just went off for a while. Whole house at a loss when that happens!

You must take some holidays Sue. DH and I have been together 20 years and have had over 40 holidays abroad together and no idea how many in UK!!!

Sorry sammcg - don't know anything about it.

    Welcome Newbies. :)

Got our car back this afternoon. I said to DH "That sounds like our car". He was like "...no it doesn't...". I was right. ;)

Anyway, the mechanic let us have a look at one of the brake pads. It's not only incredibly rusty, but also incredibly worn. How the car still managed to even brake, we don't know!

A photo for those who might be interested, can be found here: http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10150789595900029&set=a.10150633383515029.683129.577375028&type=1&theater

    :o

Anyway, the mechanic had to replace the back passenger side wheelbearing too.:o

I'm either hoping for a cash win so that we have a bit of money for it, or that it isn't as much as I expected, like last time.:o

Don't know anything about brake pads LadyM but it doesn't look very nice! Hope the bill isn't too bad for you.
When ours went in for its MOT and service it needed its timing belt changed as it is 7. It cost over £800 for it all! It is a big people mover so we don't want to change it until the kids are a bit older.
