iPhone stolen - any insurance tips

Last night I had my iPhone pickpocketed while at an entertainment venue. I reported it to the venue immediately afterwards as potential 'lost property' but it hasn't been handed in. I've since reported it to the police who are now processing things for the sake of form.

I know the police won't be able to get it back and I've contacted my network (Three) who've blocked the phone and SIM. I've also tried using the Find My iPhone app but the handset seems to be switched off.

So far, so bad. Now I've found that my home and contents insurance doesn't cover personal possessions outside the home. Hooray.

Given I've flagged up the claim with my insurer already, there's no way now I can ever get a pay-up for it, which is fair enough. However, I can get mobile phone insurance by upgrading my bank account, which I can do online straight away.

If I do this, is there any chance I might be able to claim on the new insurance? I'm expecting 'no', but I won't get an official Crime Reference Number for another 48 hours or so, so is there some leeway I might be able to get away with here?

No, the bank ins wouldn't cover you for the first 14 days of the policy, and also no cos it's fraud.

I thought the idea of insurance was to take out the insurance, pay the monthly premium and then make the claim.

This would, of course, mean making a false declaration of when the handset was lost !

Insurance fraud, how nice, the sort of thing that puts the premiums up for honest people.

Also insurance companies have a massive collective database that these things are stored on, all the insurers know about your attempted claim now, so don't do it. Ever.
